Job description

QXO is a leading distributor and installer of building products serving an $800 billion market. The company’s mission is to modernize the building products industry through advanced technology and a best-in-class customer experience. QXO is North America’s largest distributor and installer of insulation, the second-largest distributor of roofing products, the second-largest publicly traded distributor of lumber and building materials, and the largest distributor of waterproofing products. The company is targeting $50 billion in annual revenue within the decade through accretive acquisitions and organic growth. For more information, visit QXO.com.

What you'll do:

As a Director of Product, you will define and lead the product strategy for one or more critical areas of QXO's digital commerce platform. You will build and develop high-performing product teams while partnering closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, and executive leadership to deliver innovative customer experiences that accelerate QXO's transformation into the technology leader of the building products industry.

You will own long-term product vision, portfolio prioritization, organizational planning, and execution across multiple product domains. You'll balance customer needs, business priorities, and technical investments while helping shape how millions of customers discover, purchase, and manage products across QXO's ecosystem.

This leader will influence company strategy, establish product operating mechanisms, mentor senior product managers, and ensure teams consistently deliver measurable customer and business outcomes.

This Director of Product role leads Search & Discovery for QXO's digital commerce platform — the experience that helps professional builders, contractors, and trades find the right product at the right price and availability in as few steps as possible. Discovery in building products distribution is defined by intent and precision rather than browsing: buyers arrive knowing what they need and search by manufacturer part number, SKU, UPC, spec, or cross-reference across a catalog spanning hundreds of thousands of items in categories such as lumber, roofing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and specialty building materials. You will own the end-to-end discovery journey — search relevance and ranking, autocomplete, faceted browse and taxonomy, product-data and attribute enrichment, substitute and equivalent matching, and reorder and quick-order flows — while ensuring results reflect account-specific contract pricing, entitlements, and branch-level inventory. You will partner with Data Science and Engineering to advance ranking, personalization, and AI-assisted and semantic search, and with Merchandising, Category, and PIM teams to close the product-data gaps that are the single largest constraint on discovery quality in distribution. Success is measured in findability and conversion: lower zero-result rates, higher add-to-cart and search-driven revenue, and the speed and confidence that keep pros buying through QXO rather than a competitor or the branch counter.

What you'll bring: Key Responsibilities
  • Define and communicate the long-term product vision and multi-year roadmap across multiple product areas.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a team of Product Managers while fostering a culture of customer obsession, ownership, and innovation.
  • Partner with Engineering, UX, Data Science, Sales, Marketing, and Operations leaders to deliver strategic initiatives.
  • Own portfolio prioritization, investment planning, and product strategy across multiple teams.
  • Establish product operating mechanisms including roadmap planning, business reviews, KPI tracking, and quarterly planning.
  • Drive product discovery through customer research, experimentation, analytics, and market insights.
  • Lead executive-level communication regarding product strategy, investments, risks, and business impact.
  • Partner with architecture and engineering leadership to make strategic platform investments that improve scalability, reliability, and velocity.
  • Champion AI-driven experiences, automation, and machine learning capabilities throughout the customer journey.
  • Define and monitor success metrics including customer adoption, engagement, revenue, operational efficiency, and product quality.
  • Make thoughtful tradeoff decisions balancing customer value, technical complexity, and business priorities.
  • Build alignment across multiple organizations to successfully launch large-scale initiatives.
  • Represent Product leadership in executive planning and cross-functional decision making.

---

Qualifications & Skills
  • 10+ years of Product Management experience with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • 5+ years leading large technical product initiatives in complex software organizations.
  • Experience managing and developing Product Managers.
  • Proven success defining product vision and executing multi-year product strategies.
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing senior leadership without direct authority.
  • Experience leading products built on distributed systems and modern cloud architectures.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using customer insights and experimentation to drive roadmap decisions.
  • Experience balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform investments.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

---

Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or advanced technical degree.
  • Experience leading Product organizations within eCommerce, marketplaces, retail technology, or enterprise SaaS.
  • Experience with customer identity, checkout, payments, catalog, personalization, pricing, or order management platforms.
  • Experience working alongside AI/ML and Applied Science organizations.
  • Experience building organizational product processes and scaling high-performing Product teams.
  • Experience presenting product strategy to executive leadership and Boards.
  • Strong understanding of platform strategy and modern software development practices.

---

Leadership Expectations
  • Develop and coach Product Managers across multiple experience levels.
  • Foster a high-performance, customer-first culture.
  • Drive organizational alignment across Product, Engineering, Design, and Business teams.
  • Create clarity in ambiguous environments.
  • Influence company strategy through data-driven product leadership.
  • Build repeatable product development processes that improve execution quality and speed.
What you'll earn
  • Base pay range: $175,000 - $400,000
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Long term incentive (equity/stock)
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • PTO, company holidays, and parental leave
  • Paid Time Off/Paid Sick Leave: Applicants can expect to accrue 15 days of paid time off during their first year (4.62 hours for every 80 hours worked) and increased accruals after five years of service.
  • Paid training and certifications
  • Legal assistance and identity protection
  • Pet insurance
  • Employee assistance program (EAP)
