Job description

About PTI:
At Plastic Technologies Inc. (PTI), we don't just design packagingโ€”we shape the future of consumer goods. As a global leader and trusted partner to some of the world's largest brands, we are the driving force behind innovative and sustainable plastic packaging solutions.
For over 40 years, our clients have relied on us as an essential part of their journey, from the initial spark of an idea to its final execution. Through our family of global entities, including PTI-US and PTI-Europe, and our industry partnerships, we offer a comprehensive suite of brand packaging support services.
We bring concepts to life through cutting-edge prototyping, predictive analysis, and real-world production expertise. Our commitment extends beyond the product lifecycle, with a focus on recycling and a dedication to continuously pushing the boundaries of what's possible in plastic packaging.
Product Designer
PTI is seeking a Product Designer who is ready to grow into a leadership role within our Design Department. This position bridges the art and science of packaging โ€” combining creative design with technical execution. The ideal candidate is a hands-on designer who enjoys mentoring others, improving processes, and contributing to the direction of the department as we continue to innovate. This role requires collaboration, creative problem-solving, and the ability to manage project timelines within a supportive team environment.
Department: Design Department
Reports To: Director, Design Department
Location: PTI-US
Job Type: Full-Time, salary exempt
Key Responsibilities
  • Create and manage parametric 3D CAD models and drawings of rigid and flexible packaging (EBM, ISBM, injection molded, and other plastic formats) using Siemens NX
  • Translate customer and marketing specifications into innovative, manufacturable design concepts
  • Collaborate with project engineers and tooling staff to ensure feasible, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing outcomes
  • Support and advance the departmentโ€™s design workflows, standards, and data management systems (Teamcenter)
  • Contribute to planning, scheduling, and resource management for design projects
  • Assist with training and mentoring of junior designers and engineers
  • Participate in technology scoutingโ€”help identify and implement new design tools such as rendering, simulation, and additive manufacturing
  • Support rapid prototyping and reverse-engineering efforts (e.g., 3D scanning and model reconstruction)
  • Contribute to business development and promotion of design services
  • Collaborate with leadership to establish pricing standards, departmental metrics, and performance reporting
  • Build and maintain effective professional relationships with team members, clients, and vendors
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Design, or related field
(equivalent professional experience will be considered)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in 3D Computer Aided Design
  • Solid understanding of molded plastic part design, including shrinkage and tolerance control
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to balance creative design intent with engineering constraints
  • Self-motivated and organized, capable of managing multiple priorities
Preferred
  • Experience leading projects or mentoring others
  • Familiarity with NX, Teamcenter, KeyShot, Blender, or other visualization software
  • Exposure to simulation tools for stress, flow, or shrinkage analysis
  • Experience with 3D printing, scanning, or reverse-engineering tools
  • Understanding of data management practices and intellectual property protection
Growth Opportunity
This role is intended to evolve. PTI seeks someone who can grow beyond executionโ€”someone who enjoys shaping design culture, improving systems, and guiding future staff. The successful candidate will demonstrate both design excellence and leadership potential, helping PTI continue its legacy of bridging creativity and engineering.
