Requirements
POSITION SUMMARY:
La Colonia Medical Center is seeking a Medical Assistant & Phlebotomist to perform blood collections and prepare those specimens for lab testing while following established practices and procedures. The Phlebotomist maintains direct contact with patients in order to create an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible to perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques.
  • Complete all data entry requirements accurately including data entry of patient registration; entry of test order from requisition or pulling order from database.
  • Data entry and processing/labeling of specimens as required by test order for testing and analysis.
  • Maintain patient and specimen information logs and prepare all collected specimens.
  • Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Certificate.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate.
  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist.
  • Must be able to work with computers and thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Outstanding communication skills - verbal and written.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English/Spanish.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication to deliver a pleasant patient experience.
