Job description

At Leachman Cattle, we're more than a feedlot-we're a business focused on helping cattle producers maximize profitability through superior genetics, performance data, and practical innovation. We're seeking an Animal Health Technician who is passionate about livestock, committed to animal welfare, and motivated to make a direct impact on cattle performance. In this hands-on role, you'll help support the health, welfare, and success of our cattle while contributing to the operational excellence that drives producer success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct daily pen checks to identify and monitor cattle health concerns.
  • Administer treatments and follow established animal health and welfare protocols.
  • Safely handle, sort, move, and ship cattle using low-stress livestock handling techniques.
  • Monitor cattle performance and communicate health observations and trends to management.
  • Maintain accurate treatment, inventory, and cattle movement records.
  • Operate equipment safely and report maintenance or repair needs.
  • Support facility upkeep and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Assist with day-to-day feedlot operations and other operational priorities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 6-12 months of hands-on cattle health or livestock experience.
  • Knowledge of cattle health, behavior, handling, and animal care practices.
  • Ability to identify health concerns and follow treatment protocols accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate recordkeeping.
  • Basic math skills for treatment calculations and documentation.
  • Commitment to animal welfare, safety, and quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and in varying weather conditions.

In 2003, Leachman Cattle started its latest chapter of data driven beef cattle selection.  The company markets four lines of highly selected genetics:  Angus, Red Angus, Charolais, and Stabilizer. 

Through bulls, females, semen, and embryos, Leachman supplies beef seedstock, commercial beef cow/calf producers, and dairies with genetics selected for increased profitability.  Additionally, Leachman provides data tools to aid producers in identifying the best genetics for their operation.
