Position Summary:

The Deputy Director, Scheduling (or Director) provides strategic leadership and management in the Office of the President for the Human Rights Campaign, ensuring alignment between the President's activities and organizational priorities. This role manages executive engagement strategies, operational systems, and cross-organizational initiatives that involve the President and maximize the President's impact. The Deputy Director (or Director) supervises the administrative staff in the Office of the President and works with other administrative staff across the organization to streamline processes and ensure success. The position requires exceptional judgment, discretion, and the ability to represent the organization at the highest levels internally and externally.

The position is based out of the HRC Headquarters in Washington, DC, with frequent travel, including weekends. In-office days will need to be in sync with the President/Chief of Staff, approximately 4 days per week.

Candidates with at least 8 years of experience will be considered for hiring at the Director level.

Position Responsibilities:

Executive Engagement, Scheduling & Advance Work:

  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for the President's engagement with key stakeholders, including board members, donors, elected officials, coalition partners, and media.

  • Manage decision-making processes regarding the President's participation in engagements, including go/no-go determinations, in collaboration with the Chief of Staff.

  • Lead all advance and scheduling work for the President and serve as key staffer in high-level internal and external settings, including donor engagements, political and media events, and strategic meetings.

  • Oversee planning and execution of high-profile events, meetings, and travel for the President, ensuring strategic impact and seamless coordination.

  • Prepare and deliver briefing materials for the President's meetings and events to key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Serve as a senior liaison between the President and internal/external stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships and effective communication.

  • In partnership with the HRC Security team, coordinate security for the President's public engagements, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation and safety protocols for the President.

Budget, Staff & Culture Management:

  • Manage executive expense budget, including forecasting, monitoring, and strategic allocation of resources.

  • Directly manage the administrative staff in the Office of the President (currently one person), and ensure their effective support of administrative responsibilities for the President, Chief of Staff and Office of the President.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence within the organization.

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in advance work, executive administration and senior scheduling roles, preferably within nonprofit or advocacy organizations.

    • Those with a minimum of 8 years of experience will be considered for hiring at the Director level.

  • Exceptional strategic thinking, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to manage complex budgets and manage roles and responsibilities on high-performing teams.

  • Keen eye for detail and ability to manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated ability to represent the organization externally and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.

  • Ability to travel extensively (up to 50%) and work evenings/weekends as needed.

  • Commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, racial and gender justice, and the mission of HRC.
