Job description

Overview
The Director, Media Operations, is responsible for managing broadcast operations for MLS and SUM events. Ensuring seamless coordination across multiple stakeholders, such as internal teams; production partners (Apple, NEP, IMG, etc.), and rights holders. Key duties include overseeing the Broadcast Operations Center, managing matchday communications, troubleshooting broadcast issues, and preparing for major events like the All-Star Game and MLS Cup. This position also involves developing and refining operational processes, improving workflow efficiency, and representing MLS Media in industry committees and events.
Responsibilities
Broadcast Operations & Matchday Oversight
  • Participate in the in-office Media Operations match day monitoring rotation, providing operational oversight of the Broadcast Operations Center, including real-time monitoring, incident response, and coordination with internal teams and external production partners.
  • Coordinate communications during matchdays with internal stakeholders, rights holders, and production partners to ensure consistent content delivery.
  • Serve as senior operational decision-maker during live matchdays, providing clear leadership in high-pressure environments and acting as final escalation point for production-impacting issues.
  • Define and continuously refine matchday command structures, incident ownership models, and post-incident review processes.

Process & Workflow
  • Weekly Matchday Preparation, including coordination of weekly operational setup leading into matchday, ensuring tasks across scheduling, communications, technical documentation, and partner coordination are completed on time and aligned with broadcast requirements.
  • Process Development & Workflow Improvement - Establish new processes and refine existing workflows to enhance communication across departments, streamline preparation activities, and ensure operational readiness. Drive improvements around incident reporting and follow-up in the days leading up to matches to reduce issues and strengthen accountability.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of MLS Media Operations and Production structures, including roles, responsibilities, and dependencies, to ensure effective coordination and allow for fill in role where applicable.

Tentpole Event Planning & Delivery
  • Lead end-to-end broadcast production planning and execution for marquee MLS and SUM events, including MLS Preseason, All-Star Game, Leagues Cup, Campeones Cup, and MLS Cup.
  • Lead Media Operations calls and meetings with rights holders (linear and digital), internal departments, vendors, and venues.
  • Ensure infrastructure readiness-including commentary position buildouts, camera seat kills, and auxiliary compound planning-for major events across MLS and SUM.
  • Liaise with internal teams (including but not limited to Events, Ticketing, Match Business, and Operations) to align operational needs with event planning.

Tournament & Committee Work
  • Participate in Leagues Cup Organizing Committee coordination efforts in support of MLS Media leadership, including daily calls and workshops with participating clubs and media partners.
  • Lead planning and execution of rights holder integration at annual enhanced Media Access Days: MLS Media Marketing Tour, Media Days, MLS All-Star, Leagues Cup, Campeones Cup, and MLS Cup.
  • Oversee FMF live events, including vendor coordination and limited travel in support of live productions (excluding site surveys).

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Advanced Spanish language preferred
  • 8+ years of experience required

Required Skills
  • Proven leadership in managing large-scale live broadcasts and cross-functional operations.
  • Strong knowledge of broadcast technology, live streaming, and emerging production formats.
  • Ability to build new workflows, operationalize processes, and drive incident management improvements.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in dynamic environments where information may be evolving, or rapidly changing.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends aligned with the match schedule.

Schedule
This role requires an in-office presence minimum of 4 days per week to support effective coordination, real-time communication, and oversight of broadcast operations.
