Position Summary
The Director of Performance is responsible for leading the production and delivery of evidence-based athletic development and injury prevention programs for Chattanooga FC. This position will oversee both the performance and medical departments to develop and implement performance programs that are directly related to the men's first team, women's first team, MLS Next. We are seeking someone with a wide range of skills to carry out multiple functions in collaboration with our organization's athlete care, doctors, and technical staff.
This role plays a critical role in fulfilling the Chattanooga FC's purpose to build community through the world's game. You will be expected and empowered to facilitate the success of CFC football initiatives and events, advancing the sport and creating memorable experiences for players and fans alike.
Essential Functions
Performance Strategy & Programming
• Develop, implement, and oversee evidence-based athletic performance, strength and conditioning, and injury prevention programs aligned with athlete needs, goals, and organizational performance objectives.
• Develop and execute sports performance initiatives, strategies, policies, procedures, and standards across the Men's First Team, Women's First Team, and MLS NEXT.
• Collaborate with technical and coaching staff to integrate performance considerations into training, game planning, and team strategies.
Performance Assessment & Sport Science
• Lead athletic performance assessment, monitoring, and evaluation processes, including physiological, biomechanical, movement, workload, recovery, and readiness assessments.
• Interpret athlete data and movement observations to develop individualized training, conditioning, and injury prevention requirements and adjust programs as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of athlete assessments, progress, performance, and training programs.
Injury Prevention & Athlete Care
• Develop and implement injury prevention, corrective, rehabilitation, and return-to-play programs in collaboration with medical and athlete care staff.
• Collaborate with medical, nutrition, athlete care, and technical staff to support comprehensive athlete health, performance, recovery, and development.
Department Leadership & Operations
• Lead and oversee the Performance and Medical departments, including managing and developing department staff, establishing clear expectations and accountability, and ensuring collaborative practices that support athlete care and performance objectives.
• Manage the operational readiness of performance and sports science facilities, equipment, technology, and data systems.
• Support nutrition planning and performance-related initiatives for athletes and staff.
Team & Match Operations
• Lead performance operations during training, matches, and team travel, fulfilling the travel requirements necessary to support Chattanooga FC teams throughout the competitive season.
Support Club Success
• Assist with other duties as needed to help drive the CFC Purpose, fulfill our Mission, and foster our Vision.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Sports Science, Kinesiology or related field; Master's Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years working as a performance coach (experience in high-performance soccer strongly preferred).
• Extensive experience working with high-performing athletes.
• Advanced certifications such as ACSM-CES, NSCAA, CSCS or related certifications preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Proven ability to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate evidence-based strength and conditioning, athletic performance, and injury prevention programs for athletes with varying needs and performance goals.
• Strong knowledge of sports performance principles, including strength and conditioning, athletic development, workload management, recovery, movement assessment, injury prevention, and return-to-play practices.
• Ability to collect, interpret, and apply physiological, biomechanical, performance, and athlete monitoring data to inform individualized training programs and performance decisions.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with medical, athlete care, nutrition, technical, and coaching staff to integrate performance, health, rehabilitation, and athlete development strategies.
• Ability to effectively utilize performance technology, athlete monitoring systems, data platforms, and assessment tools to support athlete development, performance management, and informed decision-making.
• Ability to lead, develop, and hold performance and medical staff accountable while fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely, professional decisions in high-pressure training, competition, travel, and athlete care environments.
• Skilled in maintaining accurate, confidential athlete records and handling sensitive medical, performance, and personnel information with discretion and integrity.

CFC Core Principles

Licensing and Certifications
• Advanced certifications such as ACSM-CES, NSCAA, CSCS preferred
• First Aid and CPR certification required or ability to obtain certification before starting the position
• Possess and maintain a current and valid driver's license
Additional Requirements
• Must complete and maintain SafeSport and all required Major League Soccer (MLS) training requirements applicable to the position
• Must complete concussion training
• Must maintain legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
• Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
Medium - Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently. Frequent bending, reaching, stretching, standing, walking, and occasional sitting, climbing, crouching, and kneeling may be required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
Physical Environment: Work is performed in both office and outdoor environments. This position may be occasionally exposed to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, precipitation, and other outdoor elements associated with professional sports operations.

Work Schedule: Hours will vary due to work assignment. This position requires a flexible schedule based on Club operations and business needs. Regular work hours may include extended days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Travel:Local travel plus travel to North American away games will be required. A valid passport may be needed.
