Job description

Salud Healthcare
Salud Healthcare is transforming how value-based care is delivered by empowering provider organizations with data-driven insights, modern technology, and operational excellence. As a rapidly growing Management Services Organization (MSO), Salud partners with physician groups to improve patient outcomes, optimize clinical performance, and navigate the complexities of value-based care. Our technology platform serves as the connective tissue between providers, payers, analytics, and operations-helping healthcare organizations close care gaps, improve quality outcomes, and drive better financial performance. We are building the next generation of healthcare applications that power population health management, risk adjustment, care coordination, analytics, and provider engagement.
Position Summary
Salud Healthcare is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to help architect, build, and scale the technology foundation that powers our value-based care platform.
This is a hands-on, player-coach role for an experienced engineer who enjoys balancing software development, technical leadership, architecture, and mentorship. You will serve as a key technical partner to the VP of Technology & Data Analytics, helping transform healthcare business requirements into scalable software solutions that support providers, payers, and operational teams.
You will lead development across a portfolio of healthcare applications spanning population health analytics, care management, risk adjustment, provider engagement, and operational workflows. While this role includes leadership responsibilities, we are specifically looking for someone who remains close to the code, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and can lead through technical credibility rather than organizational hierarchy.
The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of healthcare technology experience, software architecture expertise, and practical engineering leadership. They understand how healthcare data moves through systems, can navigate provider and payer workflows, and possess the judgment to build durable solutions that balance immediate business needs with long-term platform scalability.
Success in this role will be measured by your ability to establish scalable technical foundations, deliver production-ready applications, improve engineering practices, reduce technical debt, and serve as a trusted technical advisor across technology, analytics, operations, and executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Architecture & Platform Leadership
  • Partner with the VP of Technology & Data Analytics to influence architecture decisions, platform strategy, and technical direction.
  • Lead architectural design reviews across Salud's growing application portfolio.
  • Design scalable systems supporting healthcare workflows, analytics platforms, and operational applications.
  • Establish engineering standards around APIs, authentication, observability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Evaluate technical tradeoffs and provide recommendations balancing speed, scalability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor across engineering, analytics, operations, and executive leadership.

Software Engineering & Product Development
  • Remain actively involved in software development and contribute production-quality code.
  • Lead engineering efforts across internal and external-facing healthcare applications.
  • Design and build backend services, APIs, orchestration layers, workflow automation systems, and healthcare data integrations.
  • Collaborate closely with analytics, operations, and product stakeholders to translate healthcare business requirements into scalable software solutions.
  • Ensure all applications meet security, compliance, and performance requirements.

Healthcare Data & Interoperability
  • Build and maintain integrations across EMRs, claims systems, payer data, and operational healthcare platforms.
  • Design scalable approaches for ingesting, normalizing, and operationalizing healthcare data.
  • Support interoperability initiatives leveraging HL7, FHIR, CCDA, claims data, and healthcare industry standards.
  • Partner with analytics and data engineering teams to support reporting, quality programs, risk adjustment, and operational workflows.
  • Help establish Salud's platform as the orchestration layer between providers, payers, and healthcare operations.

Engineering Excellence & DevOps
  • Drive improvements across CI/CD, infrastructure automation, observability, monitoring, security, and reliability.
  • Improve engineering standards around testing, code reviews, deployment practices, and operational readiness.
  • Reduce technical debt while building scalable foundations for future product growth.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve software quality, developer productivity, and platform performance.
  • Support cloud-native development practices and modern DevOps workflows.

Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Mentor engineers across U.S. and international teams.
  • Lead through influence, technical expertise, and collaboration.
  • Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical design sessions.
  • Help establish a culture centered around ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding future engineering talent.

AI-Assisted Engineering
  • Champion the effective use of AI-assisted development tools including Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and emerging engineering workflows.
  • Evaluate opportunities to improve developer productivity through AI-assisted software development.
  • Help establish engineering best practices for AI-enabled development while maintaining strong code quality and engineering rigor.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in software engineering and AI-enabled developer productivity.

Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience building production software systems.
  • Experience operating as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Technical Lead, Lead Software Engineer, Engineering Manager, or similar senior technical role.
  • 3+ years leading projects, mentoring engineers, or influencing technical direction across teams.
  • Significant healthcare technology experience building software for providers, payers, healthcare SaaS platforms, healthcare analytics, population health, revenue cycle management, or related healthcare domains.
  • Strong hands-on software development experience using Python.
  • Experience building and operating production web applications, APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Experience designing and integrating complex data workflows and external system integrations.
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure and modern deployment practices.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, security, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases in production environments.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of an engineering workflow.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within an MSO, IPA, ACO, value-based care organization, healthcare analytics company, health plan, hospital system, or healthcare technology platform.
  • Familiarity with risk adjustment, quality programs, utilization management, population health, care management, and payer-provider workflows.
  • Experience working with healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, X12, and CCDA.
  • Experience integrating claims, EMR, pharmacy, lab, and payer datasets.
  • Experience with Azure cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience with FastAPI, Flask, React, Next.js, Node.js, or similar modern application frameworks.
  • Experience supporting multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
  • Experience leading distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones.
  • Exposure to Databricks, dbt, Airflow, or modern data platform tooling.
  • Experience helping scale engineering organizations from early-stage growth through operational maturity.

What Success Looks Like
Within your first 6-12 months, you will:
  • Establish scalable architectural foundations for future product development.
  • Improve platform reliability, deployment maturity, and engineering velocity.
  • Deliver production-ready applications that support both internal teams and external provider partners.
  • Reduce technical debt while accelerating product delivery.
  • Help modernize engineering workflows through AI-assisted development practices.
  • Become a trusted technical advisor and thought partner across engineering, analytics, operations, and leadership.

Location: Miramar, FL (In-Person Preferred)

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Opportunity to shape the future of healthcare technology within a rapidly growing value-based care organization.
