Position Summary

Menahga Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and student-centered Head Softball Coach to lead the Braves softball program. The Head Coach will provide leadership, organization, instruction, and supervision for the softball program while promoting athletic development, teamwork, sportsmanship, academic success, and positive character.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to student-athletes and the mission of Menahga Public Schools while developing a positive, competitive, and inclusive softball program that represents the school and community with pride.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the softball program.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive softball program focused on skill development, teamwork, conditioning, and competition.
  • Teach fundamental softball skills, strategies, rules, techniques, and game situations.
  • Establish and maintain high expectations for student-athlete behavior, effort, sportsmanship, and academic responsibility.
  • Supervise practices, games, tournaments, and other softball-related activities.
  • Develop organized and purposeful practice plans appropriate for the age and skill levels of student-athletes.
  • Coordinate with the Activities Director regarding schedules, transportation, facilities, equipment, officials, and other program needs.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, administration, and community members.
  • Maintain accurate team rosters, eligibility information, schedules, and other required documentation.
  • Monitor and encourage student-athletes' academic progress and overall well-being.
  • Properly use, maintain, inventory, and secure softball equipment and facilities.
  • Promote a safe environment and follow all school district, conference, Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), and applicable athletic policies and procedures.
  • Develop positive relationships with athletes, families, staff, and community supporters.
  • Work collaboratively with assistant coaches and other athletic staff to provide consistency and continuity throughout the softball program.
  • Support fundraising, team events, banquets, awards, and other program activities as appropriate.
  • Attend required coaches' meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Represent Menahga Public Schools in a professional and positive manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Activities Director or administration.

Qualifications

  • Previous softball coaching experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, strategies, rules, and game management.
  • Ability to effectively teach, motivate, and develop student-athletes.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Commitment to student safety, sportsmanship, academic success, and character development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school athletic program.
  • Must meet all applicable MSHSL and school district coaching requirements.
  • Successful completion of required background check and other district employment requirements.
