The Risk Management job family focuses on risk driven supervision and analytics for a broad array of risk areas, products areas, and institutions or service providers engaged in moderately complex to complex activities. Members of the Risk Management family provide horizontal risk perspectives and engage with internal stakeholders and institution or service providers executives who have a deep knowledge of their functional or risk area. Members of this family also have exposure to and an impact on how the industry manages complex operations and activities.
The Lead Risk Management Specialist (RMS) provides expert consulting within the District and System and may also lead or participate on examinations as a subject matter expert. The individual participates in horizontal reviews and examinations of financial institutions or service providers and identifies and communicates emerging risks through various venues such as training and conferences.
The level of work is generally considered advanced and staff must be able to work under minimal supervision. This position has no direct reports.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Consults and serves as a technical expert for a broad range of supervisory issues within the department, District and System
  • Leverages technical expertise to drive supervisory direction and strategy by monitoring the most complex and high risk institutions or service providers; leads examination teams to uncover risk exposures and risk management gaps as well as evolving risks
  • Oversees and vets the assessment of the adequacy of risk management systems, policies and procedures, and compliance with laws and regulations
  • Leads in the understanding of the interrelationship of banking risks and the application of an integrated risk management approach in assessing an institution's or service provider's performance
  • Provides horizontal risk perspective and executes on examination/project plans, timelines and milestones for examinations
  • Leads knowledge sharing directly or through committees and participates in the creation of complex or highly complex assessments and other correspondence to internal and external stakeholders
  • Leads and provides direction in the gathering and organization of information, arriving at sound analysis, making recommendations, following up as appropriate, and identifying the interrelationship and potential impact to other institutions or service providers
  • Prepares and leads others to present both orally and in written form, conclusions and recommendations concerning highly complex matters to internal and external stakeholders
  • Builds and maintains strategic working relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders, such as other Reserve Banks, the Board of Governors and other regulatory agencies
  • Proactively serves as a mentor and/or coach; advises others, provides technical or managerial guidance and constructive feedback to internal and external stakeholders; trains and helps develop staff members

Your Background:
  • Bachelor's degree, relevant accreditation or equivalent experience
  • Ten plus years of direct work related experience
  • Seven plus years of experience in risk area of expertise required
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead others to understand and execute risk focus supervision and processes; demonstrates the ability to apply complex concepts and inter-dependencies in completing tasks
  • Demonstrates highly advanced analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates independent thinking and decision making abilities as well as have advanced written and oral communication abilities
  • Possesses the ability to provide effective direction or consultation
  • Possesses the ability to coach/guide and provide constructive feedback to all levels of staff
  • Possesses strong teamwork skills and the ability to build and work collaboratively within and across work teams
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively lead and influence a team to resolve complex to highly complex issues without authority, especially in a leaders absence
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage time and projects effectively by adjusting quickly to new and different priorities
  • Demonstrates aptitude to leverage relevant technology and software applications
  • Possesses a general business acumen

Location:
This position will be based in the Chicago office and is consider hybrid, which means your presence will be required in the office at least 2 days a week.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%-30%, occasionally. may need to travel more than 30% based on business need.
