Job description

A healthcare facility in Las Cruces, New Mexico is seeking an experienced Director of Risk Management to lead risk management strategy and operations across the organization. This is a senior-level, on-site leadership position reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer.
In this role, you will develop, implement, and oversee risk management programs that protect patients and support the organization's clinical and operational goals. You will work closely with nursing, clinical, and administrative leadership to identify potential risks, evaluate their impact, and put mitigation strategies in place. This position calls for someone who brings both a strong clinical nursing background and hands-on experience in healthcare risk management, and who can build trust and influence across departments to drive a culture of safety and accountability.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of risk management strategies across the organization
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks affecting patient safety and organizational liability
Partner with nursing, clinical, and administrative leadership to address risk-related concerns
Monitor compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies related to risk management
Provide guidance and support to staff on risk prevention and incident response
Track and report on risk management outcomes and initiatives to organizational leadership
Requirements
Active New Mexico RN license or multistate (compact) RN license
Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing school
Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, including at least 3 years in a Director or Manager role
Demonstrated experience in risk management
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) - preferred upon hire, required within 3 years of employment
Prior acute healthcare risk management experience (may substitute for the leadership experience requirement)
Experience working in a for-profit hospital setting
Previous Director-level experience
