Job description

The Recreation and Wellness team is seeking students who are dependable, confident, and excited to support the Intramural Sports program. RecWell Sports Programs Officials will report to the Assistant Director of Sports Programming and provide support in one or more of the following areas: contest officiating, participant safety, facility and equipment setup, and game administration. Officials play a key role in ensuring a safe, fair, and enjoyable experience for all participants. 

Work Schedule 

Minimum 4 hours a week between evening & weekend hours 

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide Pre-Game assistance 
  • Assist in setting up equipment for the evening and/or weekend activities. 
  • Sign in and check butler student ID's of intramural teams. 
  • Assist in examining facilities for safety hazards. 
  • Provide quality officiating during contests 
  • View and follow the Intramural Sports contest and enforce the rules judiciously as possible. 
  • Oversee the Intramural Sports contest and ensure participation takes place in a safe manner.
  • Assist in post-game duties 
  • Complete sportsmanship rating for teams. 
  • Assist in completing any forms. (i.e. accident, incident, protest, etc.) 
  • Assist in closing the activity by collecting equipment at the end of the night. (i.e. balls, bases, clipboards, tables, flags, jerseys, etc) 
  • Assist in securing the facility at the conclusion of the intramural activity. 

Required Qualifications

  • Student must be an undergraduate or graduate student at Butler University. 
  • Student must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse populations. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication, decision making, conflict management and leadership skills. 
  • Participation and Sports Officiating experience preferred.

Other Expectations

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance. 
  • Comply with University standards and policies. 
  • Ensure confidentiality of information.
  • Be in good academic standing 
  • Must be able to attend the Annual All Staff Training at the start of each Fall semester 
  • Must successfully complete a background check 
  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire
