Summary

The Purchasing Team Lead will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the procurement team. Responsibilities will include coordinating with suppliers, optimizing inventory levels, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of fasteners and related components to meet customer demand and company objectives. This role will also be responsible for leading and managing a team of purchasing professionals.

Essential Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of purchasing professionals, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure the team’s success and development
  • Cultivate and manage strategic relationships with key suppliers, negotiate complex agreements, and resolve critical issues to ensure a robust and reliable supply chain
  • Analyze inventory data, trends, and demand patterns to optimize stocking levels, reduce carrying costs, and minimize stock outs
  • Oversee the negotiation, execution, and management of high-value contracts and agreements with suppliers, ensuring strict compliance with terms and conditions
  • Conduct advanced price analysis, cost modeling, and total cost of ownership assessments to identify opportunities for significant cost savings and value-added services from suppliers
  • Collaborate closely with quality teams to ensure that all products meet or excel the required quality standards and specifications
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends, market conditions, and innovations in fasteners and related products, leveraging this knowledge to make highly informed purchasing decisions
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership to other procurement team members, fostering their professional growth and development
  • Generate reports on procurement metrics, supplier performance, and cost savings for management
  • Contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the procurement function
  • Lead and support cost reduction initiatives by identifying opportunities for savings, process improvements, and efficiencies within the procurement function

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proven track record of successful supplier negotiations and cost reductions
  • Exceptional negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in using advanced procurement software, data analytics tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Outstanding communication, leadership, and team management abilities
  • Basic knowledge of fasteners, materials, industry standards, and market dynamics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a procurement or purchasing role within the fastener distribution industry
