We are looking for a Director, Quality to join our team in one of today's most exciting technologies. This role will be based in Newark, DE.

This is a fully on-site, in office role.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Overall Quality responsibility for Bloom supplied product to Data Center customers (including all components) moving through Delaware manufacturing.
  • Overall Quality responsibility for components or skids stored at W/H's nearby prior to going to the customer site.
  • Ensure Skid line manufacturing has 100% Quality assurance through inspection, testing, and sub-component testing/inspection. Hire personnel needed to support this effort.
  • Partner with Install Quality team (field) to understand real time (daily) what items are escaping the plant and instituting immediate mitigation plans including addressing any inventory in the pipeline not yet installed.
  • Implement permanent corrective actions working with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply chain, or SQE as per relevance on each issue.
  • Lead Lessons learned activities for manufacturing quality to ensure yokoten and application to future projects underway.
  • Provide quality leadership and input into the new equipment being purchased for the scaling of Delaware manufacturing. Include inputs for quality assurance into equipment design, and verification of process steps. Understand and provide input into the planned operation, what can be bypassed, maintenance plans, calibration or drift of the equipment, automation that can fail and be undetected leading to quality escapes.
  • Partner with BMCC on quality hand off and interface that may affect DE quality.
  • Participate and understand results from testing in the plant; Functional test, Tommy test, FIT, etc. Drive pareto of failures to help cross functional problem solving of test failures.
  • Implement a 100% functional test (new) on skid final product assembly; electrical continuity, communications integrity, piping assurance, start up simulation, etc. to assure 100% QA prior to shipping to customer.
  • Ensure skid components and systems have latest FW revision prior to shipping to the W/H, or out of W/H to field.
  • Work with CIG and Manufacturing Engr, and NPI to implement workload being removed from the customer install side and being moved into skid assembly. Provide oversight to ensure best quality achievement; ensure work instructions are clear, operators trained, workstations have proper tools, and judgement criteria.
  • Apply the existing policies and procedures to achieve zero-defect flow ("dock-to-stock") for all purchased, contract manufacture parts, materials, and Bloom Energy manufactured parts.
  • Drive component and design failures back to the earliest point of detection in the process.
  • Ensure manufacturing process have Control plans with CTQ, and POA built in to each station.
  • Work collaboratively with Design teams to DFM and Pokeyoke assembly for highest quality assurance.
  • Ensure that equipment and test stations are certified with robust qualification programs, that are documented and controlled for changes with proper accuracy and gage R&R techniques.
  • Drive yield task forces to achieve company wide targets at each manufacturing point under this scope.
  • Work with the product engineering team to teach and perform early stage risk assessments (DFMEA et.al.)
  • Initiate, support and/or lead all activities related to quality, continuous process improvement, qualification, and reduction in cost of poor quality.
  • Incorporate design for manufacturability and reliability during the early design stages of product development.
  • Work with Engineering NPI and the manufacturing engineering teams to perform PFMEA, write work instructions, and establish quality check-points to guarantee zero-defect quality in production.
  • Develop and implement formal, comprehensive process documentation including process flow diagrams, Process FMEAs, process control plans, operations method Sheets, manufacturing quality charts (MQCs) and etc.
  • Lead PPAP and APQP processes for supplied parts and Bloom Manufacturing processes.
  • Lead company level problem-solving training and discipline. Reinstate the previous share drive and registration of 8D problem solving. Provide guidance to help reinforce the use of the tool, and methodology. Partner with Directors in HQ that also have oversight on the 8D problem solving initiative across the company.
  • Lead critical problem solving task forces with emphasis on cross functional inputs, accountability, time to RCCA, and ensurance of mitigation of inventory, or field units at risk.
  • Troubleshoot product issues by reviewing engineering drawings and design requirements. Drive a rigorous resolution process for product quality, reliability and design issues.
  • Perform data-driven root cause failure analyses for design, manufacturing, and administrative problems.
  • Perform process audits to monitor, continuously improve, and sustain superior product quality.
  • Review and approve all process and product changes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interface and work collaboratively across departments internally and with suppliers and customers, (including Purchasing, Quality, R&D, Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Marketing and Finance), while building strong and cooperative working relationships.

Skills and Experience:

  • More than 12 years of increasing responsibility in the areas of Quality, and Manufacturing .
  • Experience implementing company-wide ISO 9001 procedures and TS16949 standards and related process documentation. Possess working knowledge of process capability and control requirements, methods and systems.
  • Proven successful application of multi-discipline engineering problem solving techniques.
  • Understand the critical elements of modern Manufacturing Statistical Process Control, (e.g., practical working knowledge and experience with SPC, Process Capability, Cp, Cpk, etc.)
  • Understand the critical elements of modern Reliability Engineering, (e.g., MCF, MTBF, MTT, etc.)
  • Certification in a recognized problem-solving methodology such as six-sigma Black Belt, 8D, or Global Problem Solving.
  • Strong verbal/active listening/written communications.
  • Demonstrate planning and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with metrology, calibration, and Gage R & R's.
  • Experience in Quality System Auditing.
  • Experience in product phase-gate, NPI and technology transfer.
  • Experience applying PPAP, First Article Inspections (FAI) and Reports).
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem solving.
  • Ability to effectively work within a very intense, dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding work environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software.
  • Possess a passion for excellence.
  • Unrestricted willingness to travel to all regions. Travel may be up to 25% of time.
  • BS, MS or PhD in Mechanical/Material Science/Chemical/Electrical/Systems Engineering.
