Position Summary
The Director of Production leads all aspects of commercial and defense new construction programs, with full accountability for production execution from contract award through vessel delivery. This role partners closely with the Director of Technical Services to align resources, priorities, and performance with company objectives. Responsibilities include oversight of production operations, manufacturing, safety, and quality assurance, as well as ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and program milestones. The Director oversees coordination of in-house and outsourced activities, supports major equipment procurement, and serves as the primary point of contact for commercial production. This position directly supervises 3--5 leaders and provides indirect oversight of a workforce of 400-1,000 employees.
Domestic and international travel may be required.
Essential Functions
  • Analyze production, financial, and KPI data to track performance, costs, and schedule adherence
  • Lead production planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet project goals
  • Collaborate with customers, vendors, purchasing, and internal teams to resolve issues and ensure delivery
  • Oversee make/buy decisions, supplier performance, and outsourcing strategies
  • Ensure compliance with USCG, SOLAS, OSHA, environmental, and other regulatory requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, root cause analysis, and performance tracking
  • Establish and maintain production standards, quality systems (ISO 9001), and operational procedures
  • Communicate performance, risks, and milestones to senior leadership
  • Support long-range planning, estimating, and development of manufacturing business plans
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability across all shipyard operations
  • Monitor progress and drive corrective actions to stay on schedule and within budget
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills
  • Ability to lead large-scale production teams and deliver complex programs on time and budget
  • Knowledge of maritime, OSHA, and environmental compliance with a strong safety focus
  • Knowledge of QMS (ISO 9001) and process optimization
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
  • Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
  • Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMG and have high values for safety awareness
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; employee recognition and discipline; resolving employee concerns; and developing employees with the skills, competencies, and values needed to achieve Company goals

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 12 Years of progressively responsible positions in management, including supervision with an emphasis on Engineering, Manufacturing, Shipbuilding or Project Management experience required
