With more than 100 years of innovation, we've defined our industry with proprietary products that deliver revolutionary style and functionality and can be found in millions of homes and commercial buildings globally.

We are searching for candidates that are driven, intelligent, creative, and entrepreneurial. In return for your expertise, we are committed to providing competitive and robust total compensation and benefit packages to ensure you feel valued. Our dream is to become the fastest growing, most loved, window covering company in the world. What's yours?

Position Overview

The Director of Plant Operations is a senior manufacturing leader accountable for end‑to‑end performance of a fabrication plant within a matrixed operating model. This role has full responsibility for delivering sustainable results across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Inventory, and People Engagement (SQDCIP) while collaborating and influencing leaders outside of direct reporting lines to execute enterprise priorities and stretch improvement targets.

The successful candidate combines strong operational leadership, manufacturing excellence, and change management capability with the ability to operate effectively in a matrix environment—driving results through influence, standardization, and cross‑functional alignment rather than authority alone.

Hunter Douglas is a market leader in window coverings and our mission is to become the fastest growing, most loved, and most efficient window covering company in the world. We work every day to help people live beautifully in a Connected, Energy-Efficient space. Hunter Douglas has a unique business model as we are structured by division, based on product or function with a vertically integrated supply chain. Our Salt Lake City facility is critical part of the company's growth and success, and in this role, you'll provide strong site leadership leading a growing site with ~500 employees. Your technical skills and strategic operations leadership will be key in partnering to build a culture of top talent attraction, development and retention where a world-class high performance team fosters top tier performance and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Safety & Compliance Leadership
  • Create and sustain a safety‑first culture, ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Lead safe work practices, job hazard analysis, training, and proper PPE utilization across the facility.
  • Partner with EHS and HR to reduce incident rates and embed safety as a core operating discipline.
  1. Operational Excellence & Performance
  • Lead daily plant operations to achieve on‑time delivery, throughput, and productivity targets across fabrication processes.
  • Implement and sustain standardized operations management systems, including:
    • Tiered daily management
    • Visual controls and KPIs
    • Standard work and process discipline
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve labor efficiency, OEE, yield, scrap reduction, and material utilization.
  1. Matrix Leadership & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Influence and align Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Maintenance, HR, and Finance partners who do not report directly to the role.
  • Translate enterprise and divisional objectives into plant‑level execution plans.
  • Lead cross‑functional improvement initiatives requiring shared ownership and accountability.
  • Act as the integrating leader between corporate standards and local execution.
  1. Quality & Customer Performance
  • Ensure robust process controls to prevent product escapes and quality defects.
  • Partner with Quality teams to address root causes of internal and external quality issues.
  • Drive improvements in first‑pass yield, warranty reduction, and customer satisfaction metrics.
  1. Cost, Inventory & Asset Management
  • Own plant‑level cost performance, including labor, materials, scrap, and overhead.
  • Drive inventory optimization through collaboration with Supply Chain and Planning.
  • Oversee equipment utilization, preventative maintenance execution, and capital effectiveness.
  • Manage facility layout, space utilization, and packaging strategies to balance performance and cost.
  1. People Leadership & Engagement
  • Build and develop a strong leadership team capable of sustaining operational excellence.
  • Foster high levels of employee engagement, accountability, and ownership.
  • Partner with HR on talent development, succession planning, training, and retention.
  • Lead change initiatives with clarity, consistency, and respect for people.

Success Measures (What “Good” Looks Like)

  • Measurable improvement in SQDCIP metrics year over year
  • Strong safety culture with reduced incidents and proactive risk management
  • Improved delivery reliability and customer performance
  • Sustained cost and productivity improvements tied to P&L outcomes
  • High employee engagement, bench strength, and leadership capability
  • Effective collaboration across matrixed functions to achieve shared goals

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing or fabrication environments
  • Demonstrated success leading plant operations with full operational accountability
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a matrix organization, influencing without direct authority
  • Strong working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and performance management systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in complex, made‑to‑order or fabrication‑heavy manufacturing environments
  • Formal Lean / Six Sigma training or certification
  • Experience leading cultural transformation and change initiatives
  • Multi‑site or network‑based manufacturing exposure

What's in it for you?

  • Annual base salary range: $160,000 - $180,000
  • Bonus target range: 30% - 45%
  • Generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, disability
  • A company culture that prioritizes internal development and professional growth
  • Time off with pay
  • 401(k) plan with a degree of employer matching
  • Paid parental leave
  • Wellness programs and product discounts

Please note, all offers presented to candidates are carefully crafted to ensure market competitiveness, equity, and reflect the individual candidate's education, experience, skills and potential.
