Job description

JOB TITLE:            Laundry Supervisor - (Full Time) – The Guest House at Graceland                                                                                                         

DEPARTMENT:      Housekeeping

This is a Full-Time position located in the Housekeeping Department reporting to the Executive Housekeeper with variable/flexible working hours to include weekends, holidays and overtime as required. Benefits will be offered after successful completion of a sixty (60) day introductory period. This is a promotional opportunity and is an internal/external recruitment.

Job Description:

To successfully operate a full-service laundry efficiently within the parameters of the organization. Process all soiled hotel bed linens, terry and food and beverage table linens by operating all laundry machinery in accordance with hotel standards.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Responsible for the efficient running of the laundry room area.
    • Responsible for coordinating with other departments to produce requested linens.
    • Ability to read and interpret daily/ weekly occupancy reports to plan and anticipate laundry workload, staffing, and business needs.
    • Must be able to measure and account for the hours worked and laundry staff productivity.
    • Explain and report to management when or if, staffing hours need to be adjusted.
    • Responsible for monthly / quarterly inventory of linen, towels to assess the quantity lost, torn, or stained.
    • Responsible for weekly chemical consumption and verifying the correct orders are being placed.
    • Formulating washing method and formula for stained loads.
    • Ensuring the washing drying of linen and towels as per standard to reduce waste and damage to the product.
    • Maintenance and upkeep of all laundry equipment
      • Responsible for the daily cleaning of the lint rooms and all lint traps.
      • Must be able to direct the team and assign all tasks of daily cleaning.
    • Co-ordinating with the Engineering Department about routine maintenance of the equipment.
    • Responsible for coaching, counseling, and training of all laundry personnel.
      • Must be able to educate the team on the importance of recognizing fire hazards within the laundry room.
    • Create the weekly laundry schedule and assign rotating tasks to ensure maximum productivity in the laundry and chute rooms.
    • Work with chemical and machine repair personnel to repair machines, improve quality or standards, increase productivity or capacity of machines.
      • Must know the proper use of laundry chemicals and must be able to train others.
    • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of daily hotel operations; must be able to communicate both in person and on the telephone with a wide variety of individuals; ability to maintain confidentiality; skill to work with guests who may become irate and upset; ability to problem solve; must have demonstrated experience with guest services/relations; must be willing to be part of the team; must be organized. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong supervisory and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to speak clearly and distinctly; both in person and on the telephone; ability to lift up to 50 lbs. consistently; requires constant lifting, reaching, stooping, and climbing stairs; ability to stand for long periods of time, and ability to walk long distances throughout the shift.

CONDTIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Work in a no smoking area; must be able to work flexible hours/days and overtime as required; must be able to work weekends and holidays; ability to maintain confidentiality.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:  Identification badge and uniform is required; must practice good personal hygiene to present a neat, clean, and healthy appearance at all times. College Education desired. Minimum High school diploma or GED. Experience Minimum 2 years of laundry leadership and laundry operations experience.
