Job description

About Darkroom
Darkroom is the leading next-generation growth marketing firm engineering the brands of tomorrow. Founded in 2017, we set out to redefine what a modern agency could be, by replacing the inertia of legacy advertising behemoths with a model built for speed, intelligence, and measurable impact.
At our core, Darkroom is a human services company powered by Shadow, a universal AI commerce layer that integrates executive-level strategy with proprietary agentic technology. This fusion enables our teams to deliver outsized returns by enhancing creative output, operational efficiency, and revenue generation across every stage of the customer journey.
Our track record speaks for itself: billions in attributable revenue driven across e-commerce marketplaces, media networks, DTC ecosystems, and social commerce platforms. Every engagement feeds into our proprietary data infrastructure, enabling a continuous feedback loop that accelerates growth, improves margins, and compounds results across our client portfolio.
What began as a boutique design studio has evolved into one of the fastest-growing private companies in America (Inc. 5000) and among the most effective performance media agencies of the 2020s (Varos). Our founders were recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 for advancing the intersection of technology, marketing, and advertising, cementing Darkroom's role as a defining player in the future of media innovation.
About the Role
As a Director of Growth Strategy, you will be responsible for a small portfolio of game-changing brands that have engaged with Darkroom to accelerate their growth. You are one-half management consultant - spending your day dissecting inefficiencies within the business and marketing programs - and one-half marketing strategy leader, building and orchestrating a Darkroom team meant to deliver growth. This is a client-facing position meant for the best and brightest in growth marketing and media strategy, capable of leveraging their unique skillset.
Perfect candidates will be obsessed with growth strategy for consumer brands, experts at deploying efficient omni-channel paid advertising campaigns that deliver impact, with particular expertise in and knowledge growing the DTC channel at large. You should be comfortably managing the go-to-market for fast-growth emerging brands pre-revenue as equally as managing a $50M DTC P&L for a household consumer brand.
This position is the most senior position on a Darkroom omni-channel client engagement (meaning the client may be working with us across multiple sales channels - Amazon, DTC, TikTok Shop, Retail). Being successful in this role requires mastery of the DTC function, a willingness to understand (and master) how integrated paid media drives growth impact on the other channels (Amazon, Retail), and effective communication across teams and departments. You will be Directly managing the relationship with the client, scaling ad accounts upwards of $1M USD per month, and having excellent client relationship management skills. You live and growth strategy, funnel construction, and performance marketing. You want to be a part of the best team in the business at scaling brands through digital advertising.
You'll report to the Managing Director of the department and play a key role in scaling Darkroom's footprint across a portfolio of high-growth consumer brands. You'll be responsible for owning full funnel advertising efforts, including weekly client team touch-bases and QBRs, while working closely with all Darkroom teams to ensure performance goals are met.
This is a fast-paced, high-accountability environment designed for marketers who are ambitious, curious, and ready to grow. You'll gain hands-on experience in a broad range of verticals, while developing the skills needed to be a future CMO.
Darkroom is a career incubator for ambitious talent looking to operate at the intersection of business, design, and innovation.
What you'll do:
  • Develop integrated growth strategies that deliver millions in yearly growth for clients.
  • Developing campaigns where all marketing channels are working together and be able to clearly articulate overall themes as well as trends across the paid media plan.
  • Work on financial projections, budgets, P&L, and other financial documents to be shared internally, with the client, and used as a north star for work.
  • Work with our data team to deliver financial projections, customer cohort analyses, and media plans.
  • Work with Darkroom Finance team to project client spend and increase it based on performance.
  • Leverage these data insights to develop unique marketing strategies across various industries.
  • Lead multiple teams of designers, paid acquisition marketers, retention marketers, and data analysts across the globe for your client portfolio.
  • Work with Darkroom success to develop fractional and dedicated marketing org charts based on client needs.
You should apply if this sounds like you:
  • 10+ years of paid media experience with a minimum of 7 years in DTC or E-Commerce.
  • You are a master of the DTC P&L and are comfortable engaging in discussions around contribution margin, new customer revenue, and repeat revenue.
  • You understand revenue is a derivative of AOV, CVR, CPM, Traffic and can articulate this in a marketing pro-forma.
  • You have a great willingness to understand (and master) how integrated paid media drives growth impact on the other channels (Amazon, Retail), not just DTC.
  • You are a master of constructing e-commerce funnels that include irresistible offers, healthy AOV, and speak to the UVPs of a product. You can build creative strategies off these funnels and communicate them clearly to the client.
  • You are excited by complex challenges that require innovative marketing strategies to unlock scale.
  • Your 5-10 year plan has you becoming a CMO or CEO of your own brand.
  • You are excited by the challenge to work at the intersection of growth marketing, creative advertising, and financial analysis.
  • You have an acute attention to detail and are capable of project managing large teams with various functions.
  • You are able to be flexible, understand shifting client needs, deal with ambiguity, and adapt to the situation.
  • You are not afraid to be a leader and deliver thoughtful direction that keeps projects on track.
  • You are proficient in financial projections, dealing with P/Ls, and holding your own with Private Equity firms, CEOs, CFOs, or a management team when challenged to defend your strategies surrounding marketing movements and paths to scale.
  • You are excited to work with innovative data models that give you unique insights into product, customer, and marketing data. You thrive on this data to develop new strategies.
  • Know the entire acquisition marketing landscape, and have a perspective on how to build world-class campaigns in today's changing landscape - this includes knowledge of the tools to use, running effective campaigns, the metrics to measure, and the proper attribution methodologies
  • You like building teams and are comfortable being the quarterback, directing retention, paid media, creative, and data teams in harmony to deliver efficient growth.
  • Experience in online sales channel strategies; Shopify, Amazon, third-party fulfillment, and wholesale.
  • You understand media measurement and the differences between MTA, MMM, and In Platform attribution. You are keen to figure out how best to think about measurement for your clients.
What It's Like to Work at Darkroom
Darkroom is not a typical agency. We are looking for A players who want to build something great. We move fast, think deeply, and expect every team member to bring insight and rigor to everything they touch. We hold a high bar for performance, creativity, and ownership - but we also support each other relentlessly. No egos, no red tape - just world-class talent building something remarkable.
We believe in autonomy with accountability, truth over comfort, and outcomes over optics.
  • Unlimited PTO + US holidays: Rebooting is part of the work. Take the time you need to stay sharp.
  • Remote-First Culture: Many roles are fully remote. Employees based in or near our New York or Lisbon HQs are expected to work hybrid with weekly in-office time. Hub locations include the Brazil and Spain.
  • Health & Wellness: Company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Finances, growth, and retirement: Darkroom offers a robust 401(k) program with company match and profit-sharing opportunities to help you save and grow as the company grows.
  • Parental Leave: Flexible parental leave to support new parents during this important transition.
  • Growth: Our interdisciplinary model gives every Darkroomer exposure far beyond their core role. Grow your skills, expand your influence, and stay at the forefront of the industry.
