Job description

Juneau Construction Company is growing our Marketing + Communications Department in Atlanta, GA. We're seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Communications to ensure consistent messaging across our regional footprint.

The Director of Communications will lead Juneau Construction Company's internal and external communications efforts, owning the company narrative across employees, media, and all stakeholders. This role will develop and execute strategies that inspire, inform, and engage our audiences through clear messaging and storytelling. Serving as the steward of Juneau's voice, this individual will ensure communications are authentic, consistent, and aligned with the company's values, culture, and strategic priorities.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in a corporate communications role, including internal communications, media relations, and PR
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple platforms
  • Strong planner and executor who is as comfortable setting strategy as executing the work
  • Experience with media relations and public relations, building press relationships, responding to inquiries, and pitching stories
  • Sound judgment in sensitive, high-stakes, or fast-moving situations, with experience in crisis or issues communications a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with an ability to balance multiple priorities and partners
  • Experience supporting change management, culture initiatives, or employee engagement programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with design, intranet, and email platforms (e.g., Canva, SharePoint, Constant Contact, HubSpot)
  • Experience in construction, real estate, or a related industry a plus

Duties and Responsibilities:

Internal Communications

  • Develop and implement an internal communications strategy that strengthens Juneau culture, supports change, and aligns employees with our strategic vision and values.
  • Establish communication standards that reinforce clarity, transparency, and alignment across the organization.
  • Plan and maintain an internal editorial calendar to ensure timely, coordinated communications about company announcements, organizational updates, and cultural initiatives to reach all employee audiences including office and field teams across all channels-emails, intranet, digital signage, town halls, etc.
  • Create compelling content that celebrates Juneau's values, project milestones, achievements, and community impact.
  • Simplify complex information into clear, actionable messages that resonate with employees while maintaining the brand voice.
  • Measure and refine impact using feedback, surveys, listening, and engagement metrics to continuously improve internal communications.

External Communications + Public Relations

  • Lead PR strategy and external storytelling that amplifies Juneau's priorities, brand presence, and visibility with clients, trade partners, industry peers, and the broader community.
  • Build and manage relationships with key media, respond to press inquiries, and proactively pitch story opportunities.
  • Partner with the brand strategy team to develop and oversee corporate social media strategy and to ensure external content is on-brand, polished, and compelling.
  • Develop and place proactive stories highlighting project milestones, company achievements, employee accomplishments, and community impact across earned, owned, and social channels.
  • Monitor coverage and industry trends to identify opportunities and mitigate potential risks.
  • Develop and report on key communications metrics including media coverage, share of voice, and sentiment.

Executive Support

  • Serve as a strategic communications partner to company leadership, advising on best practices for communicating during change, growth, or major initiatives and developing talking points, presentations, leadership messages, town hall content, and thought leadership content.

Crisis Management

  • Own and maintain Juneau's crisis communications process-protocols, key messages, training, and response plans-so the company can respond quickly and with one clear voice.
  • Serve as an advisor to leadership in sensitive or high-stakes situations, drafting internal and external statements as needed.
  • Monitor for issues that may affect Juneau's reputation and coordinate timely, well-judged responses in partnership with leadership.

Job Expectations:

  • Position may require extended periods of time sitting and/or standing, talking both in person and over technological avenues, lifting up to 20 lbs. as needed.
  • Position may require travel within the Juneau Construction Company footprint to jobsites and additional office locations for various events as needed (15%)
  • This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring a regular in-office presence at least three days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week based on business needs.
  • Position requires tact and confidentiality, as this role is responsible for owning, reporting on, and updating sensitive information pertaining to the organization and its employees, as well as clients, trade partners and other relevant parties.
