Description
Assists the Director with the daily operations of the strength and conditioning program at Millikin University. Working directly with coaches and student-athletes to enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and promote a welcoming and championship culture. This position will report to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Director of Sports Medicine. This internship is designed as a 10-month experience from August 1 to May 31. The appointment is for one year, with a possible one-year renewal. Candidate must be enrolled in Millikin University's MBA Program to be considered for the Graduate Assistant route.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Reporting to the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach) include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Assist with the supervision and coaching of team training sessions.
  2. Demonstrate and teach proper exercise techniques and progressions.
  3. Assist with daily set up and tear down for training sessions.
  4. Assist with overall maintenance of equipment and facility.
  5. Assist with data collection and performance tracking.
  6. Support implementation of strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs.
  7. Develop year-round training programs for assigned teams.

8. Provide a safe and competitive training environment, inspiring people to become better people and champion athletes.
9. Build and sustain positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and the campus community.
10. Manage equipment usage.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Reporting to the Director of Sports Medicine) include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Learn the structure and organization of the NCAA, specifically Division III.
  2. Learn the role of strength and conditioning, and sports medicine in a relatively small comprehensive University.
  3. Gain exposure to athletic operations and event management beyond strength and conditioning.
  4. Perform duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine to assist with different sports programs at Millikin.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to succeed in a result-driven professional organization. Maintaining professional performance, demeanor, team-approach and focus on results while working under pressure in a dynamic environment. Ability to establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision, and facilitate teamwork. Highly organized, with the ability to plan, execute and multitask to meet deadlines. Must have a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor's Degree
• CPR/AED Certification
• CSCS/CSCCA Certification or in pursuit of.
• Previous coaching or internship experience in a strength and conditioning setting.
• The successful candidate must demonstrate effective and excellent leadership, motivational, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work early mornings, evenings and occasional weekends.
• Physical ability to complete typical coaching duties, including ability to lift and move athletic equipment.
• Commitment to the goals and objectives of Millikin University and CCIW.
• Ability to work within and contribute to the team effort of the Millikin University Athletic Department.
• A valid driver's license is required.
