Job description

Director of Engineering

Duties

  • Lead and inspire cross-functional engineering and maintenance teams to deliver outstanding property operations, capital improvement projects, and infrastructure upgrades aligned with the hotel's strategic goals.
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, fire suppression, and energy management systems (EMS/BMS).
  • Manage large-scale renovation and capital projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget while maintaining high standards for quality, safety compliance, and minimal disruption to guests.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for preventive maintenance, work order management, life safety systems, emergency response planning, and business continuity strategies.
  • Collaborate with executive hotel leadership (GM, ownership) to define capital expenditure roadmaps, budget allocations, vendor negotiations, and strategic planning for property-wide improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee compliance with all applicable codes and regulations including OSHA, ADA, local fire codes, health department standards, and brand/franchise requirements.
  • Foster a culture of innovation by integrating emerging technologies such as smart building automation, IoT-enabled asset monitoring, sustainable energy solutions, and green certification programs (LEED, ENERGY STAR).

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing large engineering or facilities teams within a full-service hotel, resort, or comparable hospitality environment; prior supervisory roles in technical project and facilities management are essential.
  • Extensive knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, elevators, fire/life safety, and energy management systems (EMS/BMS/PMS integration).
  • Strong background in facilities maintenance methodologies, preventive maintenance scheduling, and capital project management; familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise in life safety and regulatory compliance aligned with OSHA, local fire codes, ADA, and brand standards; experience implementing emergency response and evacuation procedures.
  • Deep understanding of energy management, sustainability initiatives, utility cost reduction strategies, and water conservation programs relevant to large hotel properties.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously; experience managing vendor and contractor relationships is strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills to coordinate effectively with hotel operations, housekeeping, F&B, and senior leadership, as well as clearly convey technical matters to non-technical stakeholders.
