About the role

The Director of Data Center Field Engineering is responsible for leading and scaling the Field Engineering organization that delivers large-scale data center infrastructure deployments across enterprise, colocation, and hyperscale environments.

This role owns how work is executed in the field at scale ensuring that deployments are performed consistently, meet defined standards, and are delivered with quality, speed, and operational discipline. This includes high-volume, multi-site deployments and next-generation AI data center buildouts.

This leader operates at the intersection of strategy and execution-translating sold work into a scalable, repeatable field delivery model while maintaining alignment with program leadership, partners, and customers.

Annual compensation: $175K - $200K USD

Field Engineering Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the Field Engineering delivery model for data center deployments, including hyperscale and AI buildouts.
  • Define and evolve service offerings across structured cabling (copper and fiber), rack & stack and hardware installation, rack build, labeling, and physical infrastructure standards.
  • Establish repeatable, scalable delivery models to support large-scale data center deployments, multi-site and national rollouts, high-volume, concurrent builds.
  • Partner with Sales and Solutions to ensure services are clearly defined, scoped accurately, and executable at scale.

Delivery & Field Execution Oversight

  • Own field execution outcomes across all deployments, ensuring installations are completed correctly and meet defined standards, quality is validated before teams leave the site, work aligns with design, scope, and schedule.
  • Establish clear expectations for Field Engineering teams to execute with consistency and discipline, identify and communicate issues early, escalate risks impacting scope, schedule, or design.
  • Ensure field issues are not isolated and are elevated through the proper program structure.
  • Act as the executive escalation point for critical delivery risks and customer issues.

Field Engineering Operating Model

  • Define and enforce the Field Engineering operating model, including Project Engineers as the technical authority and field governance layer and clear escalation paths from field execution to program leadership.
  • Ensure alignment between Field Engineering, PMO, and customer stakeholders.
  • Drive consistency in how workflows from sold engagements through planning, execution, and closeout.

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and scale a Field Engineering organization consisting of Practice Leads, Project Engineers, Implementation Specialists / Technicians, Field Engineering Coordinators and partner and subcontractor resources.
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability across all levels.
  • Build leadership capability and bench strength to support growth.
  • Foster a culture centered on ownership of outcomes, quality in field execution and proactive communication and escalation

Standards, Quality & Execution Discipline

  • Define and enforce field execution standards for rack build and installation, cabling pathways and installation practices, labeling, documentation, and testing.
  • Implement quality controls to ensure work is completed correctly the first time.
  • Establish audit mechanisms and performance metrics tied to field execution quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement across delivery practices.

Partner & Ecosystem Management

  • Own partner strategy for data center delivery, including partner selection and onboarding, capability validation for large-scale deployments, ongoing performance management.
  • Balance internal and partner delivery to support scale, geography, and demand.
  • Ensure partners execute to the same standards and expectations as internal teams.

Financial & Operational Accountability

  • Own financial performance of the Field Engineering Data Center function.
  • Ensure margin protection through accurate scoping and delivery alignment, efficient resource and partner utilization.
  • Forecast capacity needs and scale the organization responsibly.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency gains and cost optimization.
  • Embrace and support Computacenter's mission and core values.

What you have

  • 10+ years of experience in data center infrastructure delivery, field engineering, or technical professional services.
  • 5+ years of experience leading multi-layer teams, including managers, engineers, and technicians.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale data center or hyperscale deployments.
  • Experience supporting high-volume, multi-site programs.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Strong understanding of structured cabling systems, rack & stack operations, data center physical infrastructure standards
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale delivery organizations, not just manage projects.
  • Strong financial and operational acumen.
  • Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills.
