Position Summary
The Director of Business Development is responsible for leading Schaefer's business development and marketing efforts. This individual will identify and cultivate new opportunities, strengthen existing client relationships, oversee marketing initiatives, and collaborate with company leadership to drive strategic growth.
The successful candidate will be equally comfortable sitting across the table from a CEO, attending an industry networking event, developing pursuit strategies, and collaborating internally to position Schaefer for success.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Client Relations
  • Develop and execute Schaefer's annual business development strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with owners, developers, architects, engineers, consultants, and industry partners.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue project opportunities within targeted market sectors.
  • Schedule and lead meetings with prospective, existing, and past clients.
  • Maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities and provide regular forecasting and reporting to leadership.
  • Represent Schaefer at industry events, trade shows, conferences, and networking functions.
  • Support project teams in maintaining strong client relationships throughout project delivery.
  • Collaborate with leadership to establish growth goals and market strategies.
Marketing & Brand Leadership
  • Lead development of qualifications packages, proposals, presentations, and interview preparation.
  • Coordinate pursuit strategy, messaging, and positioning efforts.
  • Oversee company branding initiatives, advertising, signage, apparel, and promotional materials.
  • Manage website content, social media presence, and public relations activities.
  • Maintain relationships with industry publications and media outlets.
  • Support company events, community engagement efforts, and corporate sponsorships.
Leadership & Strategy
  • Track and report key business development metrics and performance indicators.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and emerging opportunities.
  • Manage business development and marketing budgets.
  • Provide regular updates to company leadership regarding pursuits, market conditions, and strategic initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative "One Schaefer" approach to business development across all departments.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of business development, marketing, or relationship management experience.
  • Experience within commercial construction, architecture, engineering, or related professional services strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of developing relationships and generating new business opportunities.
  • Experience leading proposals, presentations, and client pursuits.
