POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision, supports the organization in implementation of initiatives related to obtaining and maintaining Magnet™ designation and ensuring the organization's milieu reflects the internalization of the five components of Magnet. Serves as the primary coordinator and resource person for obtaining and sustaining designation as an ANCC Magnet™ hospital. Assumes responsibility for coordination of the ANCC Magnet™ application, designation, and re-designation process. Ensures a well-planned program structure, which addresses Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice, and New Knowledge Innovations and Improvements to promote excellence in patient care services as evidenced by Empirical Outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountable for the coordination of the organizational processes to obtain and maintain Magnet designation. Coordinates data collection, management, and analysis to meet Magnet standards toward the submission of the Magnet application. Coordinates and facilitates the organization of the Magnet application process. Writes, and submits interim reports to ANCC. Maintains current understanding, education, and knowledge of Magnet Program standards and updates, and communicates these findings to team members. Collaborates with Magnet experts within and external to Trinity Health. Develops and maintains a core group of Magnet Nurse Champions to collaborate with patient care service leadership team members to assist in education and implementation of the Magnet model. Assists in the development and delivery of Magnet-related education. Mentors staff nurses to support their role as educators about the Magnet process and serves as a resource to the community and area schools of nursing. Serves as an active member of the Magnet Steering Committee and helps to establish a work plan and timeline to achieve and maintain Magnet designation. Maintains and coordinates all internal aspects of Magnet status compliance and initiatives. Creates periodic Magnet journey status reports and presents at various meetings in a variety of settings to a variety of attendees. Serves as a change agent by appropriately challenging current processes, policies, and procedures. Seeks to incorporate new technologies and methods to improve overall effectiveness. Collaborates in the development, implementation and surveillance of nursing initiatives related to professional practice, patient care, and quality.
Demonstrates enthusiasm for the pursuit of nursing excellence and the advancement of professional nursing practice. Maintains a spirit of inquiry utilizing nursing evidence-based practice findings and research methodologies to improve the care delivered. Ability to present unfamiliar detailed information to others in a readily comprehensible way, to work with little direction while being sensitive to issues requiring physician and/or committee involvement, to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, and to write reports, business correspondence, procedures, and policies. Demonstrates outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates proficiency with the application of computers in data analysis, use of data based decision-making methodologies.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Establishes and fosters positive, collaborative, and cooperative relationships with other physicians, nurses, healthcare team members and leadership team members. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Policies, and the Mission, Vision, and Values. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management. Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education: A Master of Science in Nursing (Clinical, Education, Administration all acceptable)
Experience: Three years of nursing experience in an acute care setting. Three years of teaching or leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certification/Licensure: Current Michigan RN license. A professional board certification accepted by the Magnet Recognition Program must be completed within a year of hire.
