Job description

Overview
  • Tier One Technologies is seeking a Network Engineer with LAN/Wireless experience to support our US Government client.
  • This contract-to-hire position will be based in Raleigh, NC and require up to 50% travel.
  • SELECTED CANDIDATES WITHOUT REQUIRED CLEARANCE WILL BE SUBJECT TO A FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION TO RECEIVE IT.
Responsibilities
  • Configure and support wireless systems.
  • Travel to remote sites for survey, installation and upgrade of network equipment.
  • Perform site migrations.
  • Architecture design, and systems implementation, of middle-of-row to core connectivity. IOS layer 2 and layer 3 configuration and support.
  • Tier 3 escalation point for complex LAN/Wireless issues escalated from Tier 2 engineers.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Tier 2 LAN Engineers.
  • Design, implement, and manage LAN/Wireless infrastructure projects.
  • Perform network performance monitoring and optimization.
  • Develop and maintain network documentation and diagrams.
  • Network design, and configuration of OSPF, EIGRP, RIP and Static routing solutions.
  • Plan/schedule any upgrades, including any that may occur on weekends or during other off-duty hours, and release necessary notifications to the field.
  • Provide Network Automation support (upgrade software on switches, archive switch configurations, standardize switch configurations, and provide hardware/software reports upon request).
  • Mitigate vulnerabilities affecting switches.
  • Provide firewall and load balancing support.
  • Provide Root Cause Analysis of any outage during established and authorized hardware refresh window.
  • Review site designs for pathways and support systems, including multi-floor pathways and penetrations for fiber optic cable and/or copper backbones.
  • Use of Ekahau sidekick for site survey and planning.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams for integrated system solutions.
  • Typically performs all functional duties independently.
  • Create regular progress reports on project status.
Qualifications
  • A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is required. If the individual's degree is not in the applicable field, then 4 additional years of related experience is required.
  • 8+ years of IT-related work experience.
  • 5+ years of applicable Network experience and support.
  • Proven experience with Networking, troubleshooting and customer service.
  • Expertise in LAN protocols, technologies, and architecture design.
  • Experience with LAN design, implementation, and management, including deploying LAN solutions for large complex facilities.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
  • Experience with Ekahau or other Wi-Fi site survey and planning tools
  • Capability of installing, configuring, operating, and supporting Cisco and other vendor network equipment and products. In addition, must be capable of determining whether additional measures are required beyond those provided by the infrastructure tools being deployed.
  • Experience with other wireless solutions such as Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Juniper Mist, and Fortinet.
  • Experience performing switch acceptance for new field sites.
  • Experience with site reviews for Cisco networks including circuit capacity, switch types, and IOS.
  • Experience using direct measurements or design documents to advise the organization about infrastructure, reliability, and performance issues.
  • Capability of configuring the networking parameters for operating systems and network devices.
  • Capability of reading syslog output, sniffer logs, security logs and networking sections of application and operating system logs.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% for short-term assignments.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Status Green Card holder.
  • Must have lived in the US for the past 5 years.
  • Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years. Military Service excluded. (Exception does not include military family members.)
