Who You Are

The ideal Head Miller is a hands-on, technically skilled leader with deep knowledge of milling operations. You are driven by safety, quality, and efficiency while building strong, accountable teams. You communicate effectively, solve problems proactively, and take ownership of both daily operations and long-term performance.


What You’ll Do

As the Head Miller, you will lead the milling department to ensure safe, efficient operations while delivering high-quality products that meet all specifications. You’ll oversee day-to-day performance, develop your team, and drive continuous improvement across milling operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and directing milling operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and product quality
  • Ensuring compliance with GMPs, OSHA, HACCP, FSMA, GFSI, and BRC standards while maintaining an audit-ready facility
  • Training, developing, and supervising all mill department employees
  • Driving unscheduled downtime toward zero by ensuring proper parts inventory and equipment readiness
  • Partnering with Maintenance to plan repairs and execute preventative and predictive maintenance strategies
  • Driving continuous improvement in yield, extraction rates, and capacity performance
  • Establishing clear performance expectations and accountability across the milling team
  • Owning the quality, consistency, and functionality of finished flour products
  • Collaborating with Quality and other departments to ensure customer and product specifications are consistently met
  • Promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, and operational excellence
  • Supporting Mennel’s Mission, Motto, and Food Safety & Quality Statement
  • Performing other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Milling Science or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a flour milling environment
  • PCQI certification required
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and perform duties while wearing a respirator
  • Strong leadership and team development experience
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related computer systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
