Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs routine analysis on metallic specimens to determine their physical properties, which include but are not limited to Yield Strength, Tensile Strength, Elongation %, Hardness, Microhardness and Microstructure.

JOB TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following job/task functions have been identified as the core functions of this position. However, the supervisor or manager may assign additional duties associated with this position.

  • Verify the effectiveness of the heat treatment process in accordance with customer standards.
  • Perform Metallurgical sample preparation that ensures the quality of analysis
  • Perform (Rockwell testing, 3MA, and profilometer) metallographic testing for special requests and heat treat batches.
  • Maintain accurate test schedule for validating furnace chambers and die cavities in the hot stamp process.
  • Completing inspection documents as requested.
  • Understands how to use measurement tools and lab equipment.
  • Communicate quality issues and concerns and/or non-conforming or suspect material with Metallurgical Lab Supervisor and team members.
  • Collect SPC data as required.
  • Perform GR & R Studies as directed.

·       Be able to establish a clean point for heat treatment related issues.

  • Ability to organize and participate in sorting activities, with 3MA or with other approved sorting methods.
  • Has read and can train on the standard work instructions for all metallurgical lab activities.
  • Support TS-16949 and ISO 14001 standards and procedures.
  • Champions TS 16949 conformance in department.
  • Understands, supports, and implements the company Safety policies and procedures into daily work habits.
  • Understands, supports, and implements the company Quality policy and procedures into daily work habits.
  • Understands, supports, and implements the company Housekeeping policies into daily work habits.
  • Understands, supports, and implements Continuous Improvement skills into daily work habits.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly using 5S.
  • Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, ear plugs, etc.)
  • Able and willing to work any shift assigned, weekends and overtime
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Assumes other duties as directed by supervisor

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school Diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years of related experience and /or training, or equivalent combination of education or experience.

Technical Skills:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Duties include but are not limited to stand, walk, twist, bend, lift, see, talk, and hear, with an ability to travel. When onsite at plant site locations, employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, or hazardous materials.
