How you make a differenceThe Medi-Cal Eligibility Technician identifies and screens incarcerated individuals for Medi-Cal eligibility while working alongside discharge planners. The role supports new applications, renewals, and reactivations, verifies required documentation, and collaborates with DSS to ensure coverage is active upon release. The position coordinates aid code activation in the JI reentry portal and enters CIN numbers into CorEMR to support billing and continuity of coverage.Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and screen incarcerated individuals for Medi-Cal eligibility.
  • Support the submission of new applications, renewals, and reactivations for individuals in custody.
  • Verify required documentation and collaborate with DSS to process pre-release applications to ensure coverage upon release.
  • Work alongside discharge planners to ensure the job aid code has been activated in the JI reentry portal.
  • Enter CIN numbers into CorEMR for billing purposes.
Additional DetailsThe ideal candidate will have experience supporting Medi-Cal eligibility, public benefits enrollment, or healthcare coverage programs. Candidates should be skilled in reviewing applications, verifying eligibility documentation, resolving coverage barriers, and coordinating with county social services and internal care teams. Strong attention to detail, organization, data entry, and communication skills are essential. Familiarity with CalAIM, justice-involved reentry services, Medi-Cal aid codes, CIN numbers, eligibility portals, and electronic medical record systems is strongly preferred.Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience

  • Experience in a correctional facility or healthcare environment preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must maintain CPR certification, and any other certifications (such as First Aid) required by contract.
