Summary: Assists in the maintenance, inspection, repair and testing of equipment and machines in the plant as well as the building's operations system as a Maintenance Technician in training.
Safety is # 1 at BTD: Our expectations is that every employee: 1) strictly follows safety policies, rules and safe work methods. 2) promptly corrects or reports safety hazards or unsafe conditions. Promptly reports injuries for prompt diagnosis and treatment. 3) makes regular suggestions for safety process improvements to support continuous improvement in safety. Actively participates in a safety process or project such as the safety committee, safety inspections, etc.
Essential Functions: The co-op or intern supports operations by working with the Maintenance team to learn through:
  1. Direction from department leadership and Maintenance Technicians to complete tasks for multiple projects.
  2. Assist in research and collection of data.
  3. Assist in compiling and sorting data.
  4. Assist in merging files to update outdated or incomplete data.
  5. Assists in reading blueprints and schematic drawings to determine repair problems.
  6. Assists in fabricating equipment as required to include the associated welding, cutting and drilling activities.
  7. Assists in the completion of assigned preventative maintenance task and projects.
  8. Communicates timely progress reports on maintenance work orders. Enters time, components on maintenance work orders and special projects.
  9. Communicates with the Maintenance Supervisor/Trainer and other personnel as required in conjunction with maintenance and/or repair projects.
  10. Follows instructions/procedures as directed by Trainer.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
Experience and Skills Required:
  1. Ability to work independently and show strong initiative and ownership of ideas and projects.
  2. Strong computer skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  3. Knowledge of related safety requirements to include proper use of safety equipment and proper safety precautions.
  4. Ability to perform routine manufacturing maintenance activities.
  5. Ability to operate general office equipment including maintenance related application on a microcomputer.
  6. Ability to understand and follow routine oral and written instructions.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Work Environment: The position has good working conditions in general but is a diversified job requiring sustained mental effort related to organizational issues, planning and technical areas. The individual may encounter moderate emotional strain or tension. There is sustained exposure to sitting. There is also moderate exposure to Video Data Terminals (VDTs) and moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds).
Compensation Salary Range: OTC4 $18.67 - $26.12 per hour. The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth. The range provided above does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, vacation, 401(k) match, etc.
