Purpose of the Position:

Under general supervision, this position actively supports the department of Mercedes Benz Cars Procurement and Supplier Quality (MP) in Germany in all of their purchasing activities in the NAFTA region such as localization, cost improvement projects, supplier development as well as building up local market know how. 

Essential Functions: 

Act as the local contact person for MP at MBUSI for purchased parts and ensure proper communication and information flow to HQ in Germany
Represent the department in the local cross-functional teams at MBUSI 
Become familiar with the relevant market(s) and develop a local supply base in alignment with the global purchasing strategy in order to support localization including future sourcing activities and continuous cost improvement ideas. 
Support and drive cost analysis and price negotiations in cooperation with local cost analysis team and MP to ensure continuous improvement on local cost structure. 
Prepare and direct negotiations for the responsible purchasing scopes with local and global suppliers. 
Manage and organize potential analysis for new suppliers in the NAFTA region.
Organize and hold cross-functional supplier workshops and ensuring the implementation of cost ideas. 
Support ramp up activities and industrialization process for future car lines and new suppliers.
Driving deep localization activities in cooperation with the local development and quality department.
Independently negotiate and handling of local supplier claims and supporting other departments in their discussion with suppliers.
Work closely with the law department at MBUSI to develop and adapt contracts to changing regulations and rules.
Calculate and monitor local content rates. 
Create and optimize purchasing related processes to ensure and enhance day to day business operations

Perform safe work practices and participate in trainings and safety programs in a positive and proactive way by following safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards and laws.  Report all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries to management, including your supervisor, or the Safety Department.
Work safely 100% of the time.

Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.

 

Education

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain/Operations Management, Industrial Engineering and related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:   

Entry Level:  Co-Op/ internship and/ or up to 2 years' professional experience in the following area(s):Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Project Management or other related area(s). 

Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:  

Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and still focusing on closing them within the agreed timeframe. 

Ability to bring innovation to current processes and show a continuous improvement mindset.
Ability to work in a cross-functional international team environment.
Ability to plan and moderate cross-functional meetings and workshops (internal & external).
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes of automotive components.
Ability to analyze parts cost structure as well as preparing and leading negotiations.
Experienced in Excel, Word application.
