Description
Support the day-to-day operations of the library and front-line student technology assistance. Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty and staff, ensuring timely support and effective use of campus learning resources. This position requires adaptability, cross-training, and a student-centered mindset.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • High school diploma required. Post-secondary training in business, library services, or a related field preferred.
  • At least one year of customer service, retail, library, or related experience required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across service areas.
  • Must relate well with people and be able to perform a variety of student service and library activities.
  • Accuracy in filing, organizational skills and typing abilities are essential.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is required.

Work Performed
  • Assist with circulation desk coverage, checking in/out materials, and shelving.
  • Assist students, faculty, and staff in the utilization of library resources and technology.
  • Assist students, faculty, and staff in locating library materials and accessing library resources. Refer complex research or information requests to appropriate library staff.
  • Provide basic assistance with library technology, printing, computer access, and related equipment.
  • Process interlibrary loan transactions as needed.
  • Maintain campus Lost and Found.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to student employees as assigned.
  • Assist in the acquisition and ordering of library materials for both Ottumwa and Centerville campus libraries.
  • Process library materials and maintain related records and inventory information following established library procedures.
  • Assist with maintaining library records in the State Library of Iowa online catalog (SILO) and other library systems following established procedures.
  • Assist with inventory of the library collection and follow established procedures for missing materials.
  • Assist with gathering usage data and other information for reports as requested.
  • Assist with purchasing activities, including creating purchase requisitions and purchase orders and coordinating receipt of library materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain library supplies, forms, inventory, and operational records.
  • Provide support for library events and displays.
  • Help maintain an organized and welcoming library environment.
  • Cooperate as a team member with other members of library staff in performing duties essential to the efficiency of library operations.
  • Cross-train in Campus Store operations to support departmental coverage during peak periods, staff absences, or other operational needs.
  • Other duties assigned to support efficient library operations.
