Pine River-Backus Schools is searching for a full-time Director of Buildings and Grounds to begin as soon as practicable. PRB Schools, situated in the heart of the lakes area, has 821 students and is situated on one campus. This position offers a competitive salary of $65,000-$77,000, based on qualifications and relevant experience. Benefits include, group health and life insurance, paid sick leave, holiday pay, paid vacation, 403(b) match and a state pension plan (PERA). A 1st Class C Boiler License, or the ability to obtain such license, is required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: To provide students, staff and community with a clean, safe and healthy learning and working environment to give them a sense of pride in their school.
Major Areas of Accountability:
General Administration
  1. Oversees the maintenance, cleaning, repair and improvement of the School District's buildings and grounds.
  2. Plans for appropriate work priorities, calculates costs and prepares recommendations.
  3. Monitors the department budget, assists in preparation of bid specifications, contacts vendors for quotations, purchases supplies and equipment and schedules contractors for needed work.
  4. Maintains operation and maintenance records in accordance with established requirements and for developing preventive maintenance schedules.
  5. Supervises employees within the custodial and maintenance department including recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining staff.
  6. Verifies and approves timecards submitted by custodial and maintenance staff and submits to District Office for processing.
  7. Collects and approves leave slips for custodial/maintenance personnel and arranges subs when needed.
  8. Reviews and approves for payment bills submitted to the school district relating to the buildings and grounds.
  9. Acts as a district liaison for health and safety programs.
  10. Responsible for security of buildings, including set-up and maintenance of security cameras, security on doors, including locks and key fobs and proper training of all staff on procedures.
  11. Monitors building energy efficiency and regulates heating and lighting as necessary.
  12. Advises administrative team and School Board regarding needed projects related to the upkeep and improvement of the buildings and grounds.
  13. Develops, implements and maintains the crisis management plan.
  14. Coordinates lockdown, fire and tornado drills.
  15. Advises Superintendent about weather conditions related to school closings.
  16. Attends seminars, conferences and training related to buildings and grounds.
  17. Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment for safety.
  18. Oversees preparation of buildings and grounds for special events.
  19. Assists in snow removal on district parking lots.

Physical Involvement:
  1. Position involves lifting, pulling, stooping and crawling.
  2. Must be on feet for extended periods of time.
  3. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  4. Occasional climbing of ladders.
  5. Occasional repetitive motion in performing tasks.

Mental Involvement:
  1. Requires ability to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet strict deadlines.
  2. Requires ability to respond to changing technology.
  3. Must possess the ability to plan, organize and delegate responsibilities to subordinates while maintaining quality standards.
  4. Must possess the management skills involved in supervising and disciplining when necessary.
  5. Must exercise a high degree of confidentiality.
  6. The ability to handle multiple tasks at once while dealing with constant interruptions.
  7. Must be able to analyze situations and select a course of action.
  8. Must be flexible and willing to undertake a variety of tasks.

Working Conditions:
  1. Position works around dirt, dust and chemicals.
  2. Potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
  3. Proper lifting techniques and caution must be used in handling materials to ensure the safety of the employee and others.
  4. Exposure to outdoor temperatures.
  5. Occasional exposure to heights, confined spaces and mechanical equipment/moving parts.

Supervision of Other Employees: Responsible for the direct supervision of all custodial and maintenance personnel including staff, student workers and MNCEP workers.
Education:
  1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Additional vocational training preferred.
  3. 1st Class C Boiler License or the ability to obtain such license is required.

Experience:
  1. Five years of previous building maintenance/supervision experience preferred.
  2. Previous supervisory or management experience helpful.
