JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System (DCSS) is seeking a highly qualified ESOL Teacher to support multilingual learners in developing English language proficiency and academic success. The ESOL Teacher collaborates with school leaders, classroom teachers, families, and district staff to deliver research-based language acquisition instruction, monitor student progress, and ensure compliance with state and federal ESOL requirements. This position plays a vital role in advancing equitable access to rigorous instruction and closing achievement gaps for English Learners (ELs).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Valid Georgia teaching certification; ESOL Endorsement preferred;
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience preferred;
  3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and educators;
  4. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish preferred but not required;
  5. Experience working with English Learners and diverse student populations;
  6. Knowledge of child development and language acquisition best practices;
  7. Flexibility to serve students across schools or grade levels as needed;
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
  2. Proficiency in instructional technology and digital learning platforms (Microsoft, Google, and related tools);
  3. Ability to design and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction using technology;
  4. Skill in supporting a diverse student population, including students with disabilities;
  5. Cultural competence and sensitivity to multilingual learners and families;
  6. Ability to perform routine physical activities required for classroom instruction and student support.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction & Student Support
  • Provide direct language acquisition instruction aligned to WIDA standards and district curriculum;
  • Develop and implement individualized Language Acquisition Plans for English Learners;
  • Deliver targeted interventions and monitor student progress toward English proficiency;
  • Support general education teachers with effective instructional strategies and ESOL accommodations.

Assessment & Compliance
  • Administer required language proficiency assessments (WIDA ACCESS, Screeners) and analyze results to determine placement and services;
  • Monitor the academic and language progress of active, exited, and waived EL students;
  • Complete and maintain ESOL documentation, including Accommodation Forms (TPC) and required reports;
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district ESOL regulations and timelines.

Family & Community Engagement
  • Provide timely parent/guardian notifications regarding ESOL eligibility and services in families' home languages when required;
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families to support student success;
  • Serve as an ambassador for the ESOL program within the school and community.

Collaboration & Professional Practice
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to integrate language supports into core instruction;
  • Participate in IEP, Section 504, SST, and other student support meetings as needed;
  • Engage in professional learning, staff meetings, and ESOL program initiatives;
  • Attend school-sponsored events and activities that support student and family engagement.

Additional Duties

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand, move, and position for visual communication;

SALARY RANGE: Tenth-month annual contract- Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
