Antigo, Wisconsin, is a city that has a rich history and a vibrant community. It is the county seat of Langlade County and has a population of 8,100 as of the 2020 census. The city is known for its farming and lumbering district, with manufactured products primarily consisting of lumber, chairs, furniture, sashes, doors, and blinds, among other wood products. The name "Antigo" is derived from the Ojibwe phrase meaning "summer balsam firs by the river." The city's growth accelerated with the arrival of the Wisconsin Central Railroad in 1883, connecting Antigo to larger markets and facilitating the transportation of goods. Antigo's economy diversified further with the establishment of manufacturing industries, such as shoes, paper, and dairy products. The city offers beautiful parks, including Springbrook Park, Peaceful Valley Park, and Clara R. McKenna Aquatic Center, which provide opportunities for outdoor recreation, relaxation, and family-friendly activities.
