Job description

About Us
If you like a company that's big enough to provide stability yet small enough that you can make decisions and move fast, Engelsma Homes is the place for you. We are a custom builder of new luxury homes that has been serving West Michigan for over 20 years. We transform lives and landscapes by creating extraordinary homes where every detail reflects our commitment to excellence, innovation, and meaningful connection. Our office and production area are tucked back in the woods where we can be inspired by the beauty of the landscape. And our talented and dedicated team members describe our culture as driven, supportive, and rewarding. That makes sense because "team first" and "drive to get things done" are two of our core values. We feel the combination of great people and culture are a key factor in creating beautiful spaces our clients love.
About this role:
Do you thrive on working closely with clients to help bring their home design dreams to life? Is your brain is wired to juggle multiple priorities, solve problems big and small, and keep it all straight by perfecting great processes? If that sounds like you, you might just be the one we've been searching for. We are searching for an experienced Interior Designer to join our driven, hardworking, and talented team. This client-facing design professional will be responsible for executing selections, maintaining project documentation, and developing their own design vision within assigned projects. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service and top-notch organizational skills to ensure designs are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. The role reports to the Director of Design and will play a key role in specifying material and product components needed for installation, ensuring selections align with both client expectations and construction requirements. In the role you will:
  • Bring strong knowledge of residential design processes, education in Interior Design, and 3 years of executing client selections and working with residential construction projects.
  • Identify and develop your own design vision within project scope.
  • Communicate with clients to hear needs, educate on options, and propose solutions that meet functional and aesthetic goals.
  • Execute client-facing selections for plumbing, lighting, flooring, paint, tile, hardware, doors, and exterior materials.
  • Track client budgets, allowances, and communicate changes under Lead guidance.
  • Support project execution onsite to ensure selections are implemented accurately.
  • Review assistant work as needed or applicable based on individual assignments for doors, hardware, finish schedules, and design board updates.
  • Maintain job samples, sample rooms, and presentation resources; keep selections tidy, properly labeled, and remove outdated samples.
  • Ensure project documentation is up-to-date and consistent.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and incorporate new ideas into departmental standards and workflows.

What you will get:
  • Opportunity to hone your design skills at a top residential construction firm
  • The chance to turn creative ideas into an executable plan and beautiful results
  • A workspace with a great view of the woods in our new office building
  • Competitive Compensation
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance on first day of work
  • 401k with a company match
  • Paid time off
  • 7 Paid Holidays
