Conflicts Assistant (Specialized Conflicts)

Cooley is seeking a Conflicts Assistant (Specialized Conflicts) to join the Business Intake and Conflicts team.

Position summary: The business intake and conflicts function is essential to the Firm's (1) compliance with (a) ethical obligations prevailing in jurisdictions in which the Firm maintains offices and in which it practices and (b) the firm's Risk Management policies and procedures, (2) avoidance of malpractice claims and ethical violations, and (3) ability to process all attorney lateral hire, paralegal and staff conflict submissions in a timely fashion.

The BIC Conflicts Assistant (Specialized) will focus on day-to-day operations for processing all lateral intake and conflicts and will create comprehensive conflicts reports for analysis, working under the supervision of the BIC Supervisor (Specialized Conflicts) and Associate Director of Conflicts (Specialized Conflicts). The reports that the Conflicts Assistants create are key in identifying conflicts and are an important tool for the Conflicts Analysts, Conflict Staff Attorneys and Department leadership when resolving and clearing all candidates. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Process all attorney lateral, paralegal and staff candidate submission forms for completeness and accuracy
  • Responsible for responding to applicant inquiries/questions sent to Lateral Conflicts Support when submitted during scheduled work hours
  • Responsible for keeping an up-to-date log of all candidates in the queue
  • Organize information submitted by candidates to create appropriate documentation and materials in order to execute an accurate and complete set of conflict reports
  • Create and enter broad search terms for all parties and information contained in submission documents into the conflicts database
  • Review database results, remove extraneous information and create accurate, concise and complete conflicts reports in IntApp Open for analytical review
  • Ensure that firm-wide administrative filing is up to date and complete. Work with department resources to make sure filing assignments are up to date
  • Processing other conflict searches as requested
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Available to work overtime, as required
  • An overall understanding of a corporate law practice

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Prior experience in a Conflicts Department
  • IntApp Open or comparable conflicts checking software experience
  • Prior conflicts experience, including knowledge of conflicts and understanding presenting database reports

The expected hourly pay range for this position with a work schedule of 40 hours per week is $24.50 - $36.50 ($50,960.00 - $75,920.00 annually). Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
