Primary Purpose of Position

The Director, Oil Sands and North Montney Joint Ventures provides strategic stewardship of Sinopec Canada’s non-operated Oil Sands and North Montney joint venture interests. The position integrates joint venture governance, technical and economic analysis, business planning, risk management, and cross-functional execution to protect and optimize long-term asset value.

The Director serves as the primary internal lead for Oil Sands and North Montney joint venture activities and provides strategic guidance and recommendations to executive leadership regarding joint venture operations, business plans, capital investments, commercial matters, governance, and long-term development opportunities.

The role is accountable for supporting delivery of approved production, reliability, operational efficiency, financial performance, and strategic business objectives while maintaining strong relationships with operators, partners, and internal stakeholders.

Roles and ResponsibilitiesJoint Venture Stewardship & Governance

• Provide strategic stewardship of Sinopec Canada's Oil Sands and North Montney joint venture interests, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, shareholder expectations, and approved business plans.
• Represent or support Sinopec Canada in management committees, working committees, and partner forums as authorized.
• Develop positions, recommendations, and negotiation strategies related to governance, commercial activities, development planning, and strategic initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with operators and partners while effectively managing joint venture obligations, approvals, and commitments.
• Support joint venture audits and ensure governance, compliance, and partnership matters are appropriately addressed.

Asset Performance, Planning and Value Optimization

• Provide oversight and challenge of operator business plans, budgets, forecasts, capital programs, development projects, and investment opportunities.
• Monitor production, reliability, operating costs, capital efficiency, and financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities to maximize long-term asset value.
• Support achievement of approved production, operational reliability, unit operating cost, EBITDA, net cash return, and capital efficiency objectives.
• Lead evaluation of technical, economic, and commercial opportunities and provide decision-quality recommendations to executive leadership.
• Support strategic investment decisions, major project approvals, and long-range planning initiatives.

Risk Management, Compliance & Business Execution

• Ensure joint venture activities are managed with appropriate consideration for HSSE, regulatory requirements, corporate governance, enterprise risk management, cybersecurity, and internal controls.
• Monitor emerging operational, commercial, financial, and strategic risks and develop mitigation strategies where required.
• Promote disciplined decision-making, transparent reporting, and effective execution of approved business objectives.
• Support compliance with applicable legislation, partnership agreements, company policies, and governance requirements.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration

• Work closely with Finance, Planning, Accounting, Production, Supply Chain, Legal, HSE, Marketing, Mineral Land, and other corporate functions.
• Support development of efficient workflows, information sharing, and decision-making processes across business units.
• Strengthen cross-functional collaboration to improve execution quality and organizational effectiveness.
• Provide clear communication and reporting to executive leadership, corporate stakeholders, and headquarters representatives.

Leadership & Culture

• Set a clear vision and inspire teams to deliver on financial and commercial commitments.
• Model strong leadership presence in senior management meetings ensuring consistent engagement with staff at all levels.
• Build and reinforce a culture of creativity, integrity, accountability, and collaboration.
• Promote open communication, employee engagement, and alignment between this team and other collaborating teams.
• Support positive community and stakeholder relations, working with executives to enhance Sinopec’s reputation in management committees.

• Support compliance with applicable legislation, partnership agreements, company policies, and governance requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Business, Commerce, Economics, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive oil and gas experience in Western Canada specifically with non-operated assets, joint venture management, business planning, and/or asset management is required. Oil Sands and/or Montney development and operations experience considered an asset.
• Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience.
• Experience with economic evaluations, business planning, budgeting, and strategic decision-making.
• Strong business, financial, and commercial acumen combined with effective stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
• High degree of professionalism, judgment, integrity, and discretion.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and implement improvements effectively.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior involvement in mining and tailing plan management, familiarity with bitumen production processes would be considered an asset
