Job description

Job Description

The University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing (UM-IHC) is recruiting for a tenure-track physician-scientist with expertise in clinical trial design and execution to serve as Director of Clinical Trial Innovation.

The UM-IHC is a large-scale initiative focusing on computational and analytical methods to build a learning health system for improving the quality of life and longevity of the citizens of Maryland. The UM-IHC, located in North Bethesda, MD, is a collaborative effort of the University of Maryland Baltimore, the University of Maryland College Park, and the University of Maryland Medical System, funded with initial grants from the State of Maryland’s MPower initiative and Montgomery County, MD. Key foci of the Institute include population health, clinical trial innovation, data analytics, therapeutic target discovery, and education and training. Applicants with an outstanding record of research accomplishments, publications, and external funding commensurate with their academic stage are encouraged to apply.

The selected candidate will collaborate with other faculty members at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the University of Maryland College of Computing, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences, and other schools of the University of Maryland System, as well as physicians and data scientists from the University of Maryland Medical System. Faculty applying should be experienced clinical trialists with allied expertise in real world evidence and a deep understanding of one or more clinical domains. They should have experience leading a research program with a track record of securing independent extramural funding and publishing senior author manuscripts. Qualified candidates are researchers who are already exploring how data science can be merged with clinical trial methodologies in the context of a multi-site health system to facilitate large-scale trials. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise and mentor staff and fellows within the UM-IHC, and may provide clinical service in their selected field.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will contribute to the research, teaching and/or clinical missions of the University, sustain an externally funded individual research program consistent with the School of Medicine’s vision, and enhance research opportunities for other School of Medicine faculty and trainees. If the candidate will provide patient care through clinical responsibilities, a medical degree from a recognized accredited university (or foreign equivalent) is required and candidates must be BC/BE, and eligible for a license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.

Expected faculty rank for this position is Assistant Professor or higher; however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.

We offer a competitive salary, medical/dental benefits, disability plans, retirement plans, and more.
