Director, Infrastructure Engineering

Elite Technical is seeking a hands-on Engineering team leader who can support day to day data engineering operations, and work with the executive team on strategic/visionary road maps to grow the company. This position is onsite 5 days per week in Reston VA.

The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and operation of the company''s corporate infrastructure while ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of company data. This role combines strategic leadership with deep technical expertise in infrastructure architecture, DevOps practices, and modern development environments.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who understands how infrastructure is built, deployed, and secured at scale. They will lead teams responsible for on-prem infrastructure, process pipelines, internal platforms, and security controls while partnering closely with other Directorates to protect company assets and enable rapid, reliable product delivery.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end applications
  • Architect scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient infrastructure to support engineering teams and internal corporate systems.
  • Maintain and improve automated solutions on large data sets.
  • Code innovative tools to support rapid experimentation and learning.
  • Define and execute the company''s infrastructure strategy across networking, compute, and on-prem environments.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of infrastructure engineers
  • Set technical direction and standards for infrastructure development and operations.
  • Collaborate with product teams to ensure infrastructure and deployment workflows support rapid development cycles.
  • Oversee system uptime, reliability, monitoring, and incident response processes.
  • Manage infrastructure budgets, vendor relationships, and technology evaluations.
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in Information Technology. A diverse background in infrastructure engineering, software engineering, data security, data center operations, data storage, corporate IT security is required.
  • Strong knowledge of system architecture, networking, and distributed systems.
  • Basic / Proven experience implementing and maintaining data security and infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment.
  • Experience evaluating and selecting enterprise IT hardware solutions that balance security, lifecycle longevity, performance, and total cost of ownership to support organizational objectives.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecyle (SDLC) process
  • Experience managing incident response, monitoring, and operational reliability.
  • Skilled at translating technical requirements into clear, actionable information for business stakeholders.
  • Experience working with a team with a desire to produce an excellent work environment.
