Job description

Hospice El Paso is the oldest (40 years) and largest non-profit hospice in the community. We were founded by El Pasoans for the sole purpose of providing specialized care, comfort and support to persons with a terminal illness, regardless of their ability to pay.
Our main focus is maximizing the remaining quality of life for the dying, while also providing support for their caregivers and loved ones. Specialized teams provide compassionate comfort and care and are comprised of physicians, registered nurses (RNs), certified nursing assistants, social workers, chaplains, plus administrative counselors, and support staff.
The majority of these services are provided at home. Hospice care can also be administered in nursing, foster, and assisted living homes, along with rehabilitation centers and skilled nursing facilities.
The "Center for Compassionate Care" is the city's first stand-alone "hospice in-patient facility." We provide acute hospice care in a quiet and comfortable setting. In this home-like setting, patients receive 24-hours of specialized skilled care when pain and symptoms cannot be managed in a home environment.

The Director of Clinical Operations is a registered professional nurse who ensures the quality of patient care in the patients' residence and at the inpatient unit. Primary function is for the administration of the direct patient care departments and monitoring of appropriate staffing and productivity. Coordinates care with the interdisciplinary team and the patient/family. Monitors QAPI issues, KPI indicators, and directs patient care staff with regard to agency policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In cooperation with the Chief Administrator Officer, plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the direct patient care staff.
Meets with medical, nursing staff, social work, chaplaincy, bereavement, admissions, certified nurse aides, clinical informatics, and QAPI in planning patient services, programs, and activities.
Monitors the development of the patient plan of care with the team in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsible for direct patient care services (clinical managers, case managers, LVNs, CNA's) provided to the patient/family in accordance with the plan of care and accepted practices.
Oversees the scheduling of direct patient care staff, work assignments, etc. to assure that sufficient professional and nonprofessional nursing services are always on duty to maintain quality patient care.
Meets with department personnel on a regularly scheduled basis to solicit advice regarding department and inter-disciplinary matters.
Communicates with the Manager of Clinical Informatics to review open tickets, updates, and required training in the electronic medical records software.
Assures new direct patient care staff are documenting appropriately in the electronic medical records software.
Assists in identifying and correcting problem areas in the improvement of services on a within the QAPI program.
Participates in weekly IDT meetings.
Participates in the Joint Commission survey and accreditation planning process.
Assists in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of direct patient care staff.
Maintain direct patient care staff evaluations and competencies.
Requirements
Qualifications:
  1. Licensed as a nurse in the State of Texas with a BSN Degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years progressive experience in a hospice, hospital, skilled nursing

care facility, home health agency, or other related medical facility/service.
  1. Must have experience in a supervisory role, training staff, and organizational improvement.
  2. Bilingual in the Spanish language preferred.
