Summary of Position:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and control of the Hale Ho Aloha Nursing Department to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care in accord and with all laws, regulations, and Hale Ho Aloha standards. Guides the direction, administration and development of overall operations towards providing quality patient care. Guides and participates in the development of institutional philosophy, objectives and strategy planning. Reports directly to the Administrator for assigned duties and responsibilities. Retains authority, responsibility and accountability for all subordinate nursing personnel. Maintains close working relationship with all department heads.
Essential Duties:
Manages and directs activities of the Hale Ho Aloha Nursing Department:
  • Develops goals, objectives, philosophy, policies and procedures for nursing services. Formulates policies and procedures for interdisciplinary assessment and development of the residents' plan of care and implements treatment strategies to promote quality of life for the residents. Ensures proper documentation of assessments, observation and treatments performed, maintaining confidentiality of resident information.

  • Coordinates all health-care services to meet established goals consistent with the mission, objectives, and philosophy of Hale Ho Aloha. In collaboration with the Administrator and licensed staff, develops the overall plan of care for residents. Creates an organizational structure delineating authority and functional responsibilities that facilitate communication and efficiency.

  • Prepares an operational budget for equipment and personnel with nursing management staff, analyzes budget performance throughout the year, and evaluates necessary services to maximize efficient utilization of available resources and to support cost containment.

  • Actively participates in Human Resources and Employee Relations activities. Promotes and facilitates an effective working relationship with other departments and services of the facility.

  • Reviews, interprets and implements administrative policies as established by the Administrator.

  • Establishes the required functions, duties, responsibilities and qualifications relating to each nursing position and job classification with assistance from the nursing staff, Administrator, and Human Resources.

  • Determines workable staffing plans that meet stated objectives and established nursing standards. Develops and plans recruitment and retention alternatives to ensure continued staffing of the Nursing Department with qualified productive and satisfied personnel.

  • Promotes leadership and management development and recommends relevant programs for professional development of the nursing staff directs the nursing quality assurance and infection control programs, and implementation of resolutions to identified problems.

  • Upholds the values of Hale Ho Aloha, ensuring that the mission and vision of the company are understood and accomplished with consistency.

Requirements:
  • BSN degree required; MSN degree preferred.
  • Current State of Hawaii Registered Nurse License.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Level A required. Re-training once every two years.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Five (5) years experience in a supervisory, managerial, or administrative position in Nursing preferred.
  • Experience in hospice, long term or acute care preferred.
  • Physical exam (within 1 year)
  • 2 Step TB, Followed by 1 Step TB (within 1 year)
  • 2 References Required
  • Flexibility to work other times as needed and to attend mandatory training.
  • Good written, verbal, non-verbal, and active listening communication skills.
  • Experience with PointClickCare preferred.
