Position Overview


Welcome to Martignetti Companies, the leading distributor of wine, beer, and spirits in New England.


We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director, Human Resources Operations, to lead HR operations across a growing, multi-state organization of approximately 2,000 employees. This role will oversee HR service delivery, ensure compliance across 17 states, and build scalable processes to support continued growth, including acquisitions.


The Director, Human Resources Operations, will lead a team of HR Managers, Generalists, and Coordinators and serve as a key partner to business leaders. This role is critical in driving consistency, improving manager support, and enabling the HR function to operate efficiently at scale.


This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with three days per week in our Taunton office and two remote workdays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day Human Resources operations across a distributed, multi-state workforce 
  • Manage and develop a team of HR Managers, Generalists, and Coordinators 
  • Establish clear service delivery models and accountability within the HR team 
  • Improve responsiveness, consistency, and quality of HR support to leaders 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including Massachusetts-specific regulations 
  • Standardize policies, procedures, and documentation across all locations 
  • Partner with legal and internal stakeholders to mitigate employment risk 
  • Design and implement scalable HR processes (onboarding, performance management, employee lifecycle) 
  • Identify and drive process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce manual work 
  • Partner with Payroll, Benefits, and Safety to ensure seamless operations 
  • Strengthen manager capability through coaching, tools, and clear guidance 
  • Reduce escalation volume to senior HR leadership by building strong HR team ownership 
  • Support organizational effectiveness and workforce planning initiatives 
  • Support HR integration for acquisitions, including onboarding, policy alignment, and systems transition 
  • Ensure minimal disruption to business operations during integration 
  • Create and sustain an inclusive environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute, through intentional programs, policies, and leadership partnership.


Requirements

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong experience in multi-state HR operations (required) 
  • Deep knowledge of employment law and compliance
  • Demonstrated success building or improving HR processes in a growing organization 
  • Experience supporting distributed or multi-site workforces 
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and stakeholder management skills 
  • Experience in acquisitive or high-growth environments preferred 
  • Exposure to union or labor environments (not required but strongly preferred) 
  • HRIS implementation or optimization experience beneficial
  • Proficiency in related technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, ATS systems, and HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred)
  • Proven ability to develop effective business relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to influence others through consultation and coaching


Education/Experience/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 - 12+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with experience leading HR teams
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Beverage/Food Wholesale/Distribution Industry experience is a plus


Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $130,000 - $145,000
  • Bonus: Eligible to earn up to a 10% Incentive Bonus annually

  • Work performed requires no measurable physical exertion, may be required to lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds
