Title of the Position: Garnishment Legal Assistant

Responsibilities include:
  • Preparation of postjudgment liens and garnishments
  • Entering judgments
  • Verifying places of employment and entity names on the Secretary of State web site
  • Preparing writs of garnishment, filing with the courts and sending out for service
  • Following up on garnishments including sending letters and making phone calls, also receiving phone calls and answering questions from court clerks and payroll representatives
  • Using collection software to accurately and efficiently work legal files
  • Ordering checks and other documents required for liens and garnishments
  • Ability to manage a skip tracing waterfall, including running reports, communicating with vendors and processing information for garnishment
  • Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Able to pass background check
  • Strict attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to complete job assignments quickly and efficiently in a faced paced environment
  • Must have good typing, data entry and computer skills
  • Previous experience in legal collections highly preferred, specifically garnishment or other postjudgment legal remedies
  • Paralegal certificate or Associates degree preferred but not required
  • Skip tracing experience a plus
  • Good time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Good critical thinking, analysis and ability to follow client specific and task specific procedures
  • Ability to receive and apply constructive criticism
