Provides education and infrastructure support to healthcare practitioners regarding bio-ethical issues.Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Masters Degree with a concentration in Health Care Ethics
Licenses/Certifications: (None)
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • Eight (8) years experience as a clinical ethics consultant and educator, including drafting and implementing clinical ethics policies

Principal Accountabilities
  • Provides informal and formal clinical ethics consultation to provide assistance to patients, families, and practitioners involved in medial decision-making with difficult cases.
  • Develops and participates in monthly clinical ethics rounds in intensive care units to encourage dialogue and decision-making based on bio-ethical principles.
  • Provides clinical ethics education for faculty and staff to disseminate information regarding bio-ethical principals, practices, facilitating their implementation in the hospital setting.
  • Coordinates the policy sub-committee of the Institutional Ethics Committee to assure the integration of bio-ethical principals into the hospital's policies and procedures dealing with patient care.
  • Coordinates the medical futility review process to ensure that the medical futility review process is conducted according to the Texas Advance Directives Act and the hospital's policies.
  • Prepares, reviews, oversees all printed material on patient rights and clinical ethics to ensure that these materials are consistent with applicable state and federal regulatory guidelines and hospital policies.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
