What role will you play in our team
  • Serve as a global technical expert in formulation using Base Stocks and Synthetic products
  • Partner with marketing, commercial, and application development teams to demonstrate product performance
  • Provide technical leadership that strengthens competitive positioning and supports business growth
  • Act as a primary technical contact for internal stakeholders, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and industry partners
What will you do

Business Engagement

  • Provide global formulation expertise for Base Stocks & Synthetics products and applications
  • Support application development teams with product proof‑of‑performance and value‑in‑use guidance
  • Advise on formulation questions and base stock molecule selection
  • Manage technical communications with OEMs in collaboration with Finished Lubricants and Marketing colleagues
  • Bring external insights on trends, competitive offerings, technology developments, and regulations
  • Identify and champion new business opportunities and product application growth areas
  • Influence strategic direction for Base Stocks & Synthetics product applications
  • Support sales and marketing with technical tools, insights, and customer-facing materials

Capabilities & Technology

  • Deliver innovative, value‑added formulation and application support
  • Provide input on proof‑of‑performance needs for Base Stocks and Synthetics
  • Identify technical trends across customers, industry, and competition to guide development priorities
  • Implement best practices, toolkits, and work processes to maximize business value
  • Develop sales tools to support product positioning and integrated value capture
  • Identify needs for application/testing capability upgrades
  • Monitor competitive activity and market segmentation
  • Engage with Principal Engineer on Patent Infringement Risk Assessment reviews and Intellectual Property (IP) strategy, as needed
  • Serve as custodian for product integrity process documents and ensure compliance with product integrity and product quality standards

People & Collaboration

  • Mentor team members across Base Stocks & Synthetics organizations
  • Collaborate with regional and global technology market facing teams to develop optimized offers
  • Provide technical mentorship to early‑career team members
  • Interface with Finished Lubricants Technology principal experts
Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of lubricant formulation, Base Stocks, and Synthetic product applications
  • Understanding of lubricant performance specifications and testing
  • Ability to design and interpret experiments using scientific method principles
  • Familiarity with intellectual property considerations and best practices
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across diverse technical and commercial teams
  • Ability to translate technical insights into business value and customer solutions
  • Skill in identifying market trends, competitive developments, and application requirements

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

B.S. Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with 5+ years of experience in lubricants value chains (required)

M.S. or PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (preferred)

Expertise in:

  • Lubricant formulation
  • Base Stocks and Synthetics application performance
  • Lubricant testing, specifications, and method development
  • Organic chemistry fundamentals and molecular structure behavior
  • Industry trade association engagement (optional)
  • IP strategy and application (optional)
