Job description

Florida SouthWestern State College is accepting resumes in search of a Director, Media Relations and Contentto join our team of exceptional employees. This position leads the College's media relations, editorial content development, and executive communications initiatives under the strategic direction of the Managing Director of Communications and External Affairs. The director provides professional leadership for institutional storytelling and media engagement, including news releases, institutional publications, executive communications, social media, web content, and feature storytelling. The Director works collaboratively with the Managing Director to implement communications initiatives that are accurate, timely, aligned with institutional priorities, and reflective of the College's mission and voice. The position develops high-quality content for internal and external audiences, leads day-to-day media relations activities, manages assigned executive and presidential communications projects, and coordinates the editorial planning and production of the College magazine and related publications under the strategic direction of the Managing Director.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, marketing, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible, full-time professional work experience in communications, media relations, journalism, public relations, marketing, content strategy, or a related area.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills, including experience developing press releases, feature stories, executive communications, web content, and social media content.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and ability to handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with AP Style or other professional editorial standards.
