Substitute Security Officer

Tower Hill School seeks a per diem Campus Security Officer for on-call coverage, who will report to the Director of Security and Operations. The role will provide security and protection services over persons, buildings, and/or properties of Tower Hill School. The successful candidate will be committed to a team approach to school-wide safety and security.

Position Detail:

This is a per-diem (as-needed) position

These positions are on-call, as-needed positions to fill in for our regular security staff in their absence or to provide support to larger events on campus. There is no guarantee of hours with these positions. Duty hours include evenings and weekends.

Basic Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Be visible and accessible within the school community
  • Promote a security mindset and be a positive role model
  • Handle highly stressful situations with good judgment and demeanor
  • Monitor surveillance equipment, radios, and alarm systems
  • Provide guidance and direction to students, parents, and staff when appropriate
  • Maintain a physical presence during school hours and after-school events on campus
  • Assist with traffic management on campus

Additional roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide proactive patrol of campus grounds and buildings, routinely completing rounds
  • Respond to emergency calls and calls for service
  • Investigate criminal activity and suspicious circumstances
  • Complete incident reporting as required/directed
  • Render aid
  • Enforce school regulations and notify emergency responders and other school personnel as necessary
  • Coordinate security issues with various campus events in coordination with the Director of Security and Operations
  • Provide logistical support for campus activities and maintain a campus environment that is safe, clean, and conducive to learning
  • Assist with daily event management on campus
  • Assist with fire drill, lockdown and other safety exercises and drills
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • A graduate of an accredited police or constable academy
  • Prior experience as a Sworn Municipal, State or Federal Police Officer, Military MP, Military MA, Air Force Security Forces
  • Prior or current Delaware Commissioned Constable Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in control access systems, surveillance camera systems, and physical security measures
  • Previous School Resource Officer certification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Google Suite
  • Health and physical characteristics suitable for security duties
