Job description

Summary

The Connector Design Engineer applies RF interconnect and connector domain expertise to translate customer requirements into viable and manufacturable technical solutions. This role leads efforts of conceptual modeling, analysis, and detailed design of interconnect products while supporting requirements capture, prototyping, validation, and transfer to production. Working closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and manufacturing partners, the engineer develops competitive, IP-protected solutions that optimize performance, cost, and producibility. The role evaluates design concepts for feasibility and risk, drives design-for-manufacturing improvements, and ensures delivered solutions meet technical, operational, and strategic business objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Level I
    • Collaborate closely with Sales, Program Management, and Application Engineering on new product initiatives.
    • Design new products and implement modifications to existing products.
    • Facilitate the efficient transition of new product development projects from concept through detailed design and release.
    • Leverage existing designs and established design standards whenever feasible.
    • Evaluate design concept requirement packages for feasibility, viability, and risk; lead preliminary design reviews to support risk assessment and mitigation planning.
    • Follow the defined design release process, including preparation of specification matrices, compliance matrices, verification/validation matrices, and risk analyses.
    • Conduct design-for-manufacturability and cost assessments; recommend design or requirement changes as appropriate.
    • Perform product verification and validation activities in accordance with defined design inputs and product specifications.
    • Develop assembly processes and design associated assembly tooling.
    • Conduct RF and mechanical simulations and analyses; build and test prototypes as required to optimize designs prior to release.
    • Create, maintain, and update 3D models and engineering drawings; process engineering change requests.
    • Create and maintain items and bills of materials (BOMs) within the Manage PLM system.
    • Provide technical support for existing products to address design-related performance, quality, and cost issues.
    • Work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure and improve manufacturability of new and existing designs.
    • Remain current with emerging technologies, design practices, and engineering software tools.
    • Possess a basic understanding of RF connector troubleshooting and the use of RF analyzers for diagnostic and verification activities

Qualifications/Job Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements (Level I)
    • BS in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
    • Proficient in software tools including SolidWorks, Manage PLM, and MS Office applications.
    • Familiarity of ISO 9001 and AS 9100 structure and requirements.
