Position Details
Title Lecturer, Library and Information Science Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU Indianapolis Department of Library and Information Science - Luddy School Location Indianapolis Position Summary
The Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering in Indianapolis invites applications for one full-time lecturer-track faculty position in the Department of Library and Information Science. The appointment will begin on August 1, 2027. This 10-month appointment (August through May) is annually renewable, based upon satisfactory performance.
Additional compensation is available for candidates interested in teaching during the summer months.
A committed educator is sought to join our department on the Indianapolis campus. We are interested in candidates with one or more of the following areas of expertise:
  • Digital preservation & web archiving
  • Electronic records management
  • Archival intelligence
  • Database and asset management
Candidates must have experience effectively teaching in an online environment and five or more years of professional (industry) experience in one or more areas of expertise listed above. A deep understanding of career opportunities in the information professions and a passion for graduate student mentoring for academic and professional success is necessary.
Ideal candidates will also shape their teaching in ways that leverage the unique strengths of Luddy Indianapolis, including its interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and commitment to service and community engagement. We especially welcome candidates who bring direct experience or novel approaches to incorporating generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) (and related tools) to enhance student learning. Responsibilities
Full-time lecturer-track faculty commit to a balanced workload of teaching and service, which includes:
Teach graduate courses in the LIS department; typically, four course section/equivalents per semester and 3-5 different courses per academic year
Supervise independent studies
Mentor graduate students
Contribute to course and curriculum development
Contribute to the department, school and campus level, and the professional community through service (e.g., committees, initiatives, task forces, etc.)

In 2000, the Indianapolis location of the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science was founded to provide high-quality library education to students who could not be residential students, needing distance learning options. The Department is ALA-accredited, offering students a wide array of academic and career specializations. The LIS department is particularly strong in the application of technology to the information professions and in public libraries, children/youth services, and increasingly archives, particularly digital curation. Tenure track and lecturer faculty work together to provide engaged and engaging education with a commitment to the development of the library and information professions.   • ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree
  • 5+ years of professional experience related to one or more of the above listed areas of expertise
  • Knowledge of pedagogical theory and state-of-the-art practice
  • Documented effective teaching at the graduate level
  • An ability to adapt pedagogy for changing methodologies, technologies, and student needs
  • A commitment to departmental and school service, especially when and where curriculum development and instruction are key concerns
  • A willingness to lead pedagogical and assessment initiatives

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous instructional experience in higher education
