Would you like to use your hands on technical expertise to help influence Akamai's Cloud evolution?Would you like to work cross-functionally with product management and sales engineers?Join our Competitive Intelligence Team

This position combines technical marketing and competitive analysis. Responsibilities include managing cloud environments, running benchmarks, and creating data-driven insights for strategy development. Collaboration occurs with architects, product managers, engineers, and solution engineers to influence architecture and go-to-market strategies through direct technical engagement.

Akamai needs practitioners who can deploy competitor products, benchmark performance, evaluate architectures, and translate findings into actionable intelligence for the business.

As a Senior Competitive Intelligence Engineer , you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting technical evaluations of cloud and AI platforms, provision infrastructure, deploy workloads, measure performance, and document results in reproducible formats
  • Developing and manage a benchmarking framework for AI inference workloads, standardizing tests, models, and KPIs for provider comparisons (e.g., Llama, Mistral)
  • Assessing competitor architectures, APIs, networking, storage, GPU availability, orchestration tools, and developer experience while documenting actual product performance during deployment
  • Producing battle cards, technical comparison guides, and content for Sales and Presales that are grounded in verified data
  • Collaborating with Product Management to analyze cloud products, provide actionable insights, and recommend roadmap items to address customer challenges effectively
  • Reviewing and fact-checking differentiation claims in marketing materials, sales decks, and analyst briefings

To be successful in this role you will:

  • 12 years of technical experience in cloud engineering, solutions architecture, DevOps, technical marketing, or presales within enterprise technology and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent
  • Demonstrate expertise in cloud infrastructure by provisioning instances, configuring networking, deploying containers, and troubleshoot performance issues independently
  • Operate AI/ML inference workflows, deploy model endpoints, measure performance metrics, and understand cost models
  • Design reproducible tests, control variables, and present honest results using benchmarking methodology to provide accurate, data-driven performance insights
  • Produce technical content understandable to engineers and actionable for stakeholders, while effectively presenting findings to diverse professional audiences
  • Demonstrate honesty by presenting findings transparently, ensuring credibility and trust in competitive intelligence for effective stakeholder engagement

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $139,300 - $250,700/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP). Akamai provides industry-leading benefits including healthcare, 401K savings plan, company holidays, vacation (in the form of PTO), sick time, family friendly benefits including parental leave and an employee assistance program including a focus on mental and financial wellness; Eligibility requirements apply.
